You tellum, Pel. It's like he said in the interview. He invented offensive one pocket and that's all there is today.

It's late and I can't stay up. Just want to add to this....I cannot figure out how to get to see the pictures.......oh well................in any event, having seen Ronnie progress at his game , without question he is to one pocket what Bobbie Fisher is to Chess.

My pick for best player around today.....................Earl Strickland.........Like Bobbie Fisher, Earl has gone over the edge.......he has seen the game of pool in a perspective none of us can see and it has created what he is.............he has no patience and cannot understand why the rest of us do not see at the same level...

I do not mean to make any disparaging remarks about anyone but the hype ( by the media) about Efren Reyes being the best there ever was is too premature in my book. As Parica would say give him some seasoning...........let him play as long as Caras, Mosconi, Moore, Cochran and Hoppe and then let's give credit when it is due.

When a player is hooked and the announcers try to make it as some almost impossible task to hit the ball has not played much snooker. And then when the player not only hits the ball but makes it they expound on how miraculous a shot it was. Yes it was a great shot but unless the ball is a hanger most players are trying to hit the ball not make it. I personally was one of the best at putting on that poker face and acting like I played it all the way.

O.K. I am tired and rambling but give me your thoughts as to how we could improve the image of the game with some announcer training.

Titanic JerryI played one pocket in LA 25+ years before I came up to the Bay Area & 20+ years here, & having watched Efren play many times, in my opinion he is the best one pocket player I ever saw. I'm going to ask Ronnie what he thinks & will post his answer here. As far as the best player ever, Efren may be, but your right to say let's give it more time. The announcers that do pool on TV are bad, but they are trying to capture an audience of people that are not hard core pool players. We would rather listen to the guys from ACCU-STATS, but we'll have to take what we can get.

Never saw Tacoma Whitey with my own two eyes. Never saw him play. Heard more stories than the Empire State Building. 1965 am working at Blue Carpet Billiards in Alameda and get a call to locate Bucktooth and Rex from a character from Cochran's named Legs.

To make a long story short he brings some guy who was supposed to be a guy on the road, and Bucktooth asks him what his speed was. His reply was" If they breathe oxygen I have the nuts." We took him to a few places and he shot lights out. Won every time he went to the post. Made more 8 balls on the break on a bar table than I have ever seen.

All he can talk about is he is on his way to beat Tacoma Whitey. I gotta find him and beat him. Well he left town and went up to Tacomah. Word was not only did he get beat, somebody broke his jaw.

Any way the guy was Billy Stroud.

Mr. Henderson........John...differences of opinion make life pleasurable and I respect your right to have yours. Thank you for your reply.

I guess the sponsors of Pocket Billiards have a difference of opinion as to how these matches should be televised. Personnaly I would like to see a traveling ring game of six ball played on a not too tight six by twelve and have all the players wired for sound and just let them rip................It could always be edited if it got too far out of line but you must agree part of the fun is the camaraderie of all the guys woofin and talkin trash.

John did you ever know Sleepy Bob from Cochran's. He sat in a chair with his eyes closed most of the time. He would scare the hell out of you because you would get out of your chair across the room and he would say hello to you without ever opening his eyes. That old hard wood floor was great. He had everyone's walk down pat.

John I am looking forward to seeing you again. It will be sometime in September or October.

Efren told Ronnie If the game lasts more than ten minutes he figures he cannot beat Ronnie. That is now. It is always impossible to compare players who played in different eras but for me Ronnie Allen was the best. This forum should create a method of comparing skills and the only way is to have equipment not change and the rules must remain the same.

Titanic Jerry When all the road players you knew from Cochran's were not there, they were at Hollywood Billiards in LA. Bob, Legs, Crying Sam, Fat Bill, Jack Perkins & any others that were in town. That was the first place I met Ronnie & played him one handed snooker on a 5 x 10 with a little weight. We playe $5 a game & he stuck a $5 bill in the side pocket & I looked at him a little funny and he said "How long you been on the road kid, that's the up $$". Bob tried to give me 10 points playing 3 red ball snooker & I beat him, but I used to go in with him playing Jack Perkins one pocket and Jack alway won (Hmmm). Anyway, I got a lot of my poolroom education there in the late 50's & early 60's. John

I was just wondering, John, how many of us have been "IN" and had to say the same, (Hmmm), at the end? There-in lies a best seller.
