Try this one Lunch. About 1979, just before Bill Stack and I moved to Chicago. You tell me. Did we play? If I won, it couldn't have been much or I certainly would have remembered, lol. Didn't book many winners in Baton Rouge, lol. Remember beating I.P. Daniels and Shorty but that's about it. Probably broke even with Lambert. Beat Louie Roberts but I was getting the world and he was on the 3rd day, lol.

No, I guess not. The hair gives it away. The guy I was thinking of had a similiar build but his hair was a little thinner and straight. He won about a $100 before I realized I had no chance. When I first got to the Greenway the only games I could get were with road players because everyone thought that I was Steve Oakes, thanks to Dot! Louie tried matching up with me around the same time but it never happened, he gave my game much more credit than he should have. It appears you and me wear a hat for the same reason....LOL. Thanks for the picture, maybe I'll have to post one of mine one of these days.

No, you don't reformat it Jr, if it is a jpeg or gif file. You probably need to just resize it. You can also save it in a lower quality. Right click the photo and select properties. This will tell you how large the photo is. AZ will allow 102,000Bytes in size. I don't know how large you can post here. I try to keep the photos around 90,000Bytes. You can post on most sites with that size photo.
Lunchmoney, I didn't think it was me. Think I told ya before, I played Lambert's speed. Lambert wouldn't play me for a long time. He tried to get lines on me from everyone. Larry Wright finally told him he wasn't out of line playing me.

Hey Hemicuda,
Did you really own a hemi Cuda? Also, what makes you think you can come in here and show off all that hair. :p LOL J/K Don't be modest about your play. Playing with the players you've played with means you sir have not only heart but must have game also. I was born but it sure wasn't yesterday. ;)
Ok, more questions. Did you mainly play 9 ball or was it one pocket? LR was a 9 ball player as I remembered. My other question is, Are you still in Chicago or get out here once in awhile? I didn't read your bio or anything. If your in the west suburbs I'd be willing to pay for time. In trade for some road stories. :)
BTW, I had a 1969 Charger R/T 440 Magnum w/ Racer Brown 3/4 race cam, 780 dual pump Holley carb, Mallory dual point distributor, Headers, and a 489 posi gear( casn't remember the exact but it was way too low), BM shift kit w/5000 rpm stall, and Mickey Thompson L60/15's. I'd blow off the fan belts everytime I came out of the hole. 425 Hp and man could that thing jump over beer cans. LOL

C.C.Yes Chris, I use to own one. Black 70, 4 speed. Sold it about a year ago. Price got to be too tempting. When I played, I played all games, save billiards. No one in Jackson, MS, my home, played billiards. I have lived in Jackson all my life except the 20 years I spent in Shorewood, IL, from 1979 to 1999, when I sold my business and moved back to Jackson. The I55 bridge separates Joliet and Shorewood, IL. There were some very good players in Shorewood. Mike Bandy, Jamie Farrell, Jeff Sergent, Jim Gray and an old black road agent they called Tennessee.
If you are from the Chicago area you either know Rocket Man or know someone who knows him. I played Rocket's speed but with 100 IQ points on him, lol. He was a great guy. All the players loved him.
My Hemicuda was pure stock. 4.10 Dana 60 rear end. Looked something like this under the hood.

I don't know why you would but it's ok with me. I don't think anyone would want to see my pic anyway. Would that be before the cancer or after? LOL Hey, sounds like you had a nice tourney. Hi Hemi,
Man, you should have never let it go. That is sharp. The gas today would be tough though and the weekends would be good to pull it out of the garage. That car must go for like up in the $20,000. range right? I imagine. My Charger goes for about $26,000. about now in mint cond. I paid $1500. LOL Man, I miss those days and the car too.
Rocket? hahahaha I went on the road with him to MN way back when. Can't tell you how many times he would make me laugh. This was way before his attraction with dust.
At that time we went to Moby Dicks in St. Paul. Hookers on the corner outside and that was one huge joint inside. There were two floors and 2 bar tables. The regular hustlers there gave one up for us. It was unreal. You'd see guys with ties on and guys that looked like they fell off the truck. LOL
They all lined up like a checkout line of a supermarket, in front of the table. They'd all play for like $2.-$5.00 a game but that meant a lot with the row that was endless. We won in one night $600. The guy who gave us the table let us stay overnight in his condo. Rent was like $200. at the time, cheap. The next day we went to a bowling alley and bet the $600. up and Rocket ended up losing like $300. then, back for a long nitwe at Moby' again.
We stayed like 5 days. Stops along the way we made money. Got stiffed and had to leave one place in a hurry. If you know what I mean. Then, ended up broke. Sold the 8 track player, all the tapes and got $40. for gas and went back home. LOL
Anyway, it's great to talk about those days back then. If you played Rocket you have to know Bobby Haddad and Harold Siemansen(sp). Rocket, Bobby me and Harold used to play 6 pocket togather. Bobby and Harold used to team up and for a $1. a stroke that was hairy. LOL That's when Harold owned the PH. He gave it to his son Eric and just went 100% into the magazine. He's done quite well with it.
I was in DeVry back then but my nites went to pool and my days went to classes. Don Feeney used to stop in. I offered him the 7 and he turned me down but invited me to breakfast. He's really a nice guy and resides in Chicago now.

Chris, I got quite a bit more than that for the car. I bought it in the early 90s for $26,000. I had a certain price in mind and when the car reached that price I said I was going to sell it and did.
The first score I made in Chicago was off Bobby Haddad/AKA Captain Hook-NOSE, lol. His brother was in with him at the King And I, in Cicero. We had gotten all the money we could with Bill Stack playing, Bobby, Johnny Monet, Rocket and Jimmy King. So, Bill tells me he thought we should lemon off a few hundred to Rocket with me playing. Haddad played Rocket, getting the 7 ball. None of these guys had ever seen me play so I walked up to Rocket and said I would play him the same way we played the last time. Rocket didn't know me from Adam, lol but said, how did we play? I said, I got the 5 and the break. Rocket thought about it for a while and said, I don't remember it but lets play, lol. You gotta love this guy..... Stack said we could get the money back at any time from Rocket, so I lemon off $300 getting the 5 and the break.
A couple of nights later they were all lined up to play me. Monet and Haddad almost got into a fight getting to the table, lol.
I've heard Bobby's son, Mark, is playing pretty well now out in Tom's part of the country. How bout it Tom? Do you know Mark Haddad? Last time I saw Mark he was probably 14 years old and playing every day in the Chicago area.
He was hanging around with Mark Jarvis and Mike Parker.

Mark has been a good player around No. Calif. for quite a few years. When he was younger we called him "The Snake" cause he was brutal with the moves. He gets religion from time to time and quits playing for a while, but when he is playing some, he is one of the better 9-ball players up here. His one pocket is not too shabby either. He used to run around a little with Billy Palmer and played around the same speed until the last year or so (in my opinion). I saw him at the Hard Times Tourney, but he didn't play in the one pocket and I don't know about the 9-ball. Tom may have more info on him, but last I heard he wasn't playing.

He is a great player and has been known to beat the best.

HAHAHAHA I took Bobby off for $300. one night playing 9 ball. I remember the King and I on Cicero ave. I used to make good money games there too. That members only deal and would lock the door. So many people had guns in there I was always watching my back. LOL I always walked out with the doe and never had one problem there. Great place for late night action.
I stopped at Oak Park Billiards last week. I asked about Jimmy and they said he'd been in recently. Man, that guy had a good straight pool game. I was like 15 when I saw him matching up. You have to know Jim Celli (sp) He sold Palmers and tried talking me into ordering a Szamboti with a seven yr waiting list. LOL I told him, Jimmy, I can't wait 7 yrs. LOL Boy was I dumb. Thank God I have one now.
Oh, Rocket came into Harolds one night and offered me the 7. I said, come on Rocket. You can't give me the 7. I beat him 3 straight sets. Then, in his best Grady imitation he said, I have to owe ya for the last set. LOL I said, sure, what's a hundred between friends. LOL He had the doe but he forgets I ran around with him. I know he was going to use it for a stake. LOL
Last I saw Mark Jarvis he was moving to California. His wife graduated nursing school. He beat Jeff Carter so bad one night in the tourney at John Abruzzo' place he slammed his cue and walked out with it togather and held the case in his hand. LOL Man was Jeff pi$$ed. LOL
I seen Mark Haddad and he's doing well. I saw him at Valley Forge this yr. Forgot to ask if he still shoots with the rag in his back pocket. LOL He must have found religion. He was more than friendly to me. Then again he's grown up and is more mature now. He alway did carry himself well moreso than what I see in today' players. He didn't like losing anything though. Ahh, who does?

Yea John, I guess it figures. Considering the people he learned from. Another Chicago player that took Mark under his wing was, and Chris you will appreciate this, Ronnie The Hat. Between the Hat, Jarvis, Parker and his dad it is quite understandable why he would be tabbed the Snake.

That's ironic because Mark hung around a guy that worked for Harolds as a counterman nick named Snake. He was the old flame of Tina Larson. Man, she drove him crazy and he knew what buttons to push on her, no doubt. Snake was a good player too. He didn't like playing me but I did have respect for his game.
Snake had a real Snake at harolds that somehow got loose in the hall. It was a bowwa. hahahaha Ahh, the good old days. When it was late and no action we'd get out the putter and a cup. Set it up down the row of tables and the closet one to the cup would win. We'd all put up $2. a shot. That was so fun. hahahaha

Just wondering if Ben Ho still owns Oak Park Billiards, Chris. He was a great guy. He kicked Mosconi out for shooting masse shots, before Jimmy King told him who Willie was, lol. Remember the photo of Ben and Willie on the wall? Ben apologized profusely to Willie and begged him to come back in, lol. Willie's life long friend and attorney lived in Oak Park.

Hi Cuda,
I asked if Ben was still around. The kid says no. I remember that kid though and I swear he was Ben' son. He denied it though. The picture is gone. Everything looked the same as when I was 15. That picture looked as if Ben took a picture and added willie to it. You know the kind that looks like it's been doctored? hahahha That picture was more like a poster it was so big. LOL I for the life of me can't remember the guy that sold it to Ben? I remember being leary that Ben would raise the rates. Was it .60 hr or $1.20 ? Either way, the 4 of us played 30 mins and the kid charged us 5 bucks a piece. I told him, I didn't need the memory that bad. LOL I did manage a business card. Would you like it?
I played on table one and it still rolled straight despite the ripped worn bad cloth. It played as straight as an arrow. They don't have the old clay balls anymore but the place didn't change. The lock still broken on the john and the door that threw you in there with the backlash spring. hahahha They didn't have the john in the front anymore. They bricked it up.
You know I shot craps with the guys that worked next store after they closed. I seen them a few times as I walked back home and peep'd in many times till one day they waved me in. Lost all my money. That's when I didn't know it was easier to throw an 8 than a ten. LOL
Thanks for the memories,

Hi Cuda,
I asked if Ben was still around.

The picture I was talking about was just an 8X10 hanging on the wall. Ben had his arm around Willie's shoulder. Willie signed it to my good friend Ben Ho. And, this was just after Ben ask him to leave. Jimmy King helped smooth things over with Willie. He told Willie that Ben was an idiot and didn't have a clue who he was. Remember, Ben's English was far from perfect too, lol. I have heard some horror stories about Willie's temper but in this case he must have been in a good mood. I don't remember the big poster on the wall.
I just thought about it. Oak Park Billiards was 50 years old 30 years ago, lol. I can imagine what it looks like now.

It's the same pic only he had it enlarged and it looked doctored. LOL Did you want the business card? I got one and I'd be happy to send it to you for keepsake. I don't collect much of anything but my friend grabbed a couple at the door. Just pm with an address and I'd be happy to send it. No charge of course. :)
C.C.~~Still the same ould big clock above the door.
