I'm new to the game, but I am priviledged to have come along at a time when I can study Efren Reyes' game in person.
It's pretty obvious that Efren Reyes is an inspiration to me. He is so adept at all cue games. In particular, I see things in his 1P game that no one else seems to have. You can see his mind working several shots ahead. He plans his moves as purposefully as a Chess Master executes their moves. I do not know his equal in creativity.
With that said, I would like to share two moments caught on film…both by Accu-Stats.
Situation#1:
Billy Palmer left Efren in the following situation at the 2004 DCC 1P event. Billy had put up a valiant fight, but was getting mentally defeated in this set. Efren’s pocket is on the right.

Mark Wilson & Danny Deliberto both agreed that Efren should kick two-rails behind the five and kick it near his hole as illustrated below. The CB would trickle up near the rack without much effort. This is what I would have chosen to do as well.

This seemed like a good solution, but Efren came up with something more creative as can be seen in the video below.
Here is Efren’s solution…

Lest you think it was an accident, this was the second time this set he had used the same shot. I will admit that you need Efren’s skill to pull off the shot as routinely as he did.
I later tried the shot five times and hit it twice (40%). When I hit it poorly, the OB would roll up to the rack and the CB would trickle too far up table and leave a cut shot on the 13.
Situation#2:
This situation is from the finals of the 2006 DCC 1P event with Jason Miller. This is a rather famous shot now as it was indicative of the level Efren was playing at during this event. Jason had nothing to feel bad about because NO ONE was threatening Efren at this event.
Efren bumped the 4 on the way to position on the 10. This left him with a seemingly impossible cut shot. Surely he would not cut the 10 and let the CB loose…nope, he cut the 10, killed the CB with inside spin, and landed perfectly for position on the 7!
Efren’s insane cut shot…

I’ve set up this shot (on several occasions) and I can not come close to the other-worldly spin he put on that CB. I can make the ball, but the CB does not kill like his.
Anyone else have some "Great Moments in 1P History" they can share?
