I little about me and my personal set of 1hole issues (which is why I joined here).

I've been playing for ten years (maybe longer) but it has been mostly 8ball league play....with the rare but occasional 9 ball session while out practicing.

Lately, over the last few monthes, I have played quite a bit of 10 ball as well as some more frequent 9.

And most recently some 1 pocket....which I suppose is the "chess" of the pool world.I am FOND of this game of small moves.

But I really need help on with the rules concerning balls up,down, fouls in general ect. This is kinda hard to get right on the fly.I have seen the link for the rules so that will go a long way I'm sure.

My bigger problem is not so much "execution" as it is imagination. Its nothing at all for me to have to stare at the table for minutes trying to figure out what to do next to gain an advantage, however slight,as a result of my decision. This doesn't happen on every shot of course, but it happens far to often for my liking.

To clarify that last statement I have execution issues too ,that's just not my focus at the moment lol.

Anyhow...thanks for having me and I look foward to learning something new.

I should add that my only opponent at the moment is one of the players from my eight ball team, who has just a little more experience with the game then I do,which isn't saying much.

(I could see someone reading the first post and wondering "well, who the hell is he playing?) :)

Thunderball,

Welcome. The forum is has a little less traffic than most but it is great for being able to talk to some outstanding players and minds (Mine not among them!).

Where are you located?

It does take a while for most of us in this game and patience is a virtue. If I have to give some advice to a person with little experience it would be:

Pay attention to the smallest movement of the cue ball, in this game it matters much more than others.

It is well worth your time to think, as you have mentioned, for a lot longer about your shots, where every single ball will end up after the shot.

Get used to not having as many shots as offensive as you are in other games.

Get books and DVD's by Grady and Freddy, they are great players and more importantly, great minds.

Some of the guys you have never heard of on here are very high level players and it pays to listen to them.

Lastly, stupid people don't do very well in this game. It helps to shoot well but its much better to move well.

I hope you enjoy the game. There aint nothing else like it. Visit Freddy's site.

Upstate SC to answer the question.
And thanks for the welcome and advice in general.

Oh,can someone link Freddy's site?I'll check it out.

i would suggest you go to accu stats and get some matches with commentary by grady or billy incardone or player review. you can pause the table decide what you would shoot and see what the player decided and hear the opinons of the commentators. great way to learn. also watch some matches at your pool hall. there might be some old timers who would share knowledge for the time or small wagers.
