Okay I know I have asked this before... But it came up again last night so I just want to be absolutely sure on this...

9.4 If any owed balls, or balls that have fallen into a neutral pocket are forgotten and later remembered, then instead of being spotted after the current shooter’s inning, they are spotted after the end of the next player’s inning, unless there are no balls left on the table, in which case they are all spotted immediately. In any case, any owed balls are not forgiven, but still must be paid.

In practice, forgotten balls may be spotted at any time after they are remembered, as long as both players agree on the timing; if either player objects to an earlier spotting, then rule 9.4 should be followed.

Please note that playing ‘snooze you lose’ is the rare exception in house rules; it is by no means the standard rule, and it should only be accepted when it is clearly and mutually agreed on by both players before play begins.

Last night, in a game we disagreed on a forgotten ball, my opponent owed and that I did not remember until the end of my inning... I said he should spot it now, he said it didn't spot until after his inning was over... His rationale was that the reason was if true, the ball could be construed as favorable for him, or for me then it didn't spot till the end of his inning, where I disagreed in the fact as the rules say the ball spots... Am I just being a complete idiot on this? It seems as though knowing that I will spot a ball at the end of my inning prior to me shooting is a big advantage to me, especially in the end game scenerio specifically with safety play being so important...
Thanks

The idea behind the delay in spotting is specifically to avoid the possibility of one player conveniently remembering "oh, I (or you) owe a ball" when immediately putting it up would conveniently either create a shot (or a safety) for the player coming to the table. By spotting after the next player's inning, theoretically you are both going to have a chance to prepare for the spotted ball. Of course it's even better to use coins to mark owed balls and get them spotted when they first are due up.

You can see why in gambling, old timers preferred "snooze you lose". The "snooze" rule positively favors the most experienced player, because they probably have learned (the hard way) NOT TO SNOOZE.

If I am reading your post right, you say he should spot it now? NO way. No matter what, when you remember you wait until the finish of 2 innings. In this case if you remembered after you finished your inning then you wait until you finish your next inning.

I get into this rule a lot practicing with my good buddy Kenny Crenshaw.
One of the best 1p players in Calif. We have played each other for years and he has this little move he pulls. Ne never has a coin on him. Now since we practice I just wait to see if he remembers for the hell of it. But sometimes we play such good safties it takes awhile for anyone to make a ball we consequentially both forget. Then when I finally do remember we argue for awhile(all in fun) and then we wait 2 innings and he spots one. lol

Well y'all know that the only damn sand around here is on the beach! Let me know when you and Lil Bubba get back. I want to see how my 1P game stacks up against the military's finest!:D
