OPGhost and Phil W. were discussing a one-pocket tournament at Chris's in Chicago on July 26th. What type of event is it? Races to 3, or # of balls? How many players are they anticipating? Does Diliberto realize that he'll be entering into a den of thieves and assorted con men?;)

Yobagua-
Here was a posting of it on AZ...
http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=107273

Quoted:
Chris's Billiards hosted a $300 added one pocket tournament on Saturday, July 26th, 2008. A total of 21 players were in attendance. Some of the top players were Ike Runnels, Freddy Bentivegna, Arturo Zulueta, Danny Diliberto, Tom Spencer, Chris Gentile, Bruce Perry, Jet and John Zaksas.

Chris Gentile aka "The Machine Gun" who said he really hasn't played pool in about 4 months was able to be instroke throughout the day. He went through the event undefeated and took home the first place prize.

Danny Diliberto made an appearance too. He brought some of his Road Player books and was autographing them for anyone who purchased a book. He is still a great player and amazed many of the people watching him play with his one pocket skills. Not only is he a talented player, he came across as a complete gentleman.

1st Place: Chris Gentile
2nd Place: Jet
3rd Place: Tom Spencer
4th Place: Bruce Perry
5th/6th Place: Robert Schiffino/ Danny Diliberto

yo....I was just about to give you a general report, but Joe Jaguar already did. I will add my disgruntled personal story though....

I never did get knocked out....We started playing at about noon, and at 12:30 a.m. I was in the final 4 players. We were trying to get the tournament done in one day, so I had just played for over 12 hours straight, without any more than a 10 minute break....Unfortunately at that point I had to forfeit because my back was killing me to where I couldn't keep playing....I have a back pain situation, and if I play for enough hours it flares up big time...Too bad, because I was playing good, and might very well have finished in 3rd or 2nd place - probably not 1st though, Chris plays too good..........As all of you other older guys know, this aging thing just ain't right.......When I was 25 years old, I would have finished this tournament and then gambled all night and next morning afterwards !

Anyway, regardless, it was a fun tournament, and it was good to see Danny D.

Thanks for the updates guys. Danny just called and told me he absolutely enjoyed it. He said he got so much good feelings from the guys that he just loves being on the road. He was helping some guy put up a table the day before and was pretty beat too but for a guy in his 70's he dont do too bad. Get well Ghost. See you at the Derby.

Ghost,

Sorry to hear your back is giving you problems. I have adjusted our game accordingly. I will get out of line and give you 9/8...20 AHEAD for big $$$$
when we meet at DCC. TAR may not want to stream it without EMT medics at standby. My only problem is I may get drunk before your back gives out.
Getting old ain't for sissies, is it ? :p :D

Regards,

Dick

PS Are we not talking about why the Beard got pissed and left ?

OPG, I'm shocked that you would allude to your true top speed! Finishing ahead of Runnels, Bentivegna, Diliberto, et al; and then making excuses!?:D You'll never get a game in a big city poolroom again!

BTW, I might be able to straighten out your back problem, but then you'd have to give me more weight...:)

Doc, thanks, that'd be great, then after you fix my back, I'll just have my IBS, hernia, and kidneystones to deal with......:(

Ghost,

Dick

PS Are we not talking about why the Beard got pissed and left ?

Dick, I have developed a distinct aversion to Chris's Billiards. The only reason I played in the tournament was because I knew Danny was going to be there. The joint has deteriorated into a nest of nits and knockers. When it dawned on me that if I won a few matches that would also condemn me to spend the whole day in that dump. That thought complelely demotivated me. They have guys in there who are willing to sit in the chair for 2 to 3 months just waiting for something to keel over dead at their feet. The Ghost gives me a little action but he only shows up about once a week, if that. All those excuses aside, I lost my 1st match 3 zip to a kid that dont shave yet.

Freddie,

Don't be ashamed of the loss to the kid. What if you had lost to a "B" player, (like maybe the Ghost) your own age ? That would really have stung.
