Hey Bill, you mentioned Watusi in the Chicago lingo thread and I remembered that I had a pic of me gambling with him at the DCC - I figured you'd enjoy seeing it....And that's me with the glasses that you see sitting on the couch in the back of the pic.

For those of you that don't know Watusi, or 'Tusi" as we affectionately call him here in Chicago, he has been a shortstop bank & One Pocket player in Chicago for the last 40 years. He's particularly well known ( besides for being about 6'7" ) and loved around the Chicago gambling fraternity because for 30 years or so approx. 1968-1998 (he's slowed down a bit in recent years), he was some of the best action around - he always had $$$, and he liked to bet HIGH, and OFTEN, and he would play without the nuts, so he was in action ALL THE TIME......Freddy could tell a lot of stories about Tusi.

Also, for our members, incuding Dick & hemicudas/$Bill I believe, who never made it to the old DCC, in this pic you get to see one section of the Gambling/Action Room at the DCC - there was one main part of the room, and then three alcoves with 1 or 2 tables in them - this pic shows one of the alcoves.

A 6'-7" man will make a 9' look like a bar box. If you think that is bad, you should see a local around here playing on the bar box. At 7'-1" his head is ABOVE the light as he walks around. If he needs chalk and its on the other side of the table, he just reaches over and grabs it. I need to get a pic.

What a pic, Ghost. You are dead on about Watusi's super heart and gamble too. Cicero, IL is called the Island, because there, used to be, no blacks in the town. No black pool players would dare to try to hustle in Cicero, IL. With two exceptions, Cannon Ball and Watusi. For some reason they were not affraid of the place and the action bars there didn't say a word when either of them walked in.

I never played Watusi but my partner, Bill Stack, played him endless games of Last Pocket 8 Ball for $100 or $200 a game, which in 1980 was damn good action.

Thanks a lot for posting the pic, Ghost. Great memories in a better time. Really hate I have never been able to make the DCC. Maybe some day...........
