View Full Version : Play clock prop
Anybody know if there is a prop for playing on a clock at one-pocket? What I am thinking is each player gets, say, 45 minutes of total time. The one who runs out of time before there is a winner, loses. Like they do in chess.
NFG's post about the slow squeeze got me to thinikng about this. It would seem to have some interesting possibilities.

Grady had that idea several years back. He explained how it worked on a thread here a few months ago. I believe he said he tried it at a tournament and it worked pretty well. Or maybe he just wanted to try it. If he did, I don't know what he's done with all the clocks...

Get a chess clock.
I played a guy a month or so back using a chess clock. We were both complaining that the other was too slow. So I said lets use the chess clock, and split our time accordingly.
It worked at first, but then he would forget to hit the button and then refused to keep using it. He is just a "difficult" person. But maybe normal players would be able to handle it.
We had the clock by the chair at the side of the table. So it was also extra incentive to get out of the way of the shooter and return to the neutral chair to hit the button.
We paused the clock for racking and bathroom breaks.
I'd be worried about using the clock for actual loss of game though.
The reason I say this is what if it is an uptable game and BOTH players are about to run out of time. The one who runs out first will lose in the loss of game scenario. But in reality, neither player could have won if they both needed a bunch of balls and they were all uptable.
So maybe you can keep the clock running for both players, even if one runs out of time. Then if they both run out of time, there is no penalty. But if only one player runs out of time, there are money odds that reflect the time difference, as opposed ot an outright loss of game due to time expiring.
Obviously this whole concept has not been used much or by many players. So whatever you come up with, should be continuously refined as new scenarios are discovered.
Thanks, Doc. I'll have to search for the thread and Grady's post.

iusedtoberich, the chess clock is exactly what I was thinking about. Maybe 120 seconds per shot or else it is a foul would be better than 45 minutes per game. It would keep the game moving better.
