I'm curious too Larry, The silence is deafening. I know for sure Grady did. Thats one ! (by the way...Grady won, both times)
I doubt we''ll see a list of "Beard-like" proportions. ;)

( I know I'm being a jerk...I just couldn't hep m'self.)You must be back from your two month vacation. You can get a job as a spocksman.I gave you some air because you went on vacation with your family. But I guess thats not the case. I am Realy starting to wonder what this site is about. And I am Also wondering why I am waisting my time. Since everybody knowes everything. I Dont think you people are into learning. I guess its more about causing conflict. I guess everyone is looking for thier role in life. And cant say anything good about themselves. So they look to knock and critizize others. But You had me fooled. I realy thought you went on vacation with your family. THats why I left it alone. I guess you didnt desirve that much respect.

Artie, trust me, it's really best if you don't go there !! I am guilty of over-needling, but I couldn't help myself, the devil made me do it. (or was it the YJ?)
And that creep (Mr 3C) thats trying to get my goat on the other thread...had better not either.

I for one am delighted to participate in a site which has as posters 20 or so of the world's most foremost authorities (to steal from Prof. Irwin Corey). There are even a few who know something about pool. You just can't beat that!!

No, thank you!
This isn't any different than being in the pool room. People argue, get mad, then match up. It's not always a sunny day.
It's a shame we don't have access to a pool table immediately because alot of games would have happened.

That's exactly why a lot of people (including myself)enjoy this site so much. Once you visit this site and get somewhat involved, it's hard to go black, I mean back. (to the other sites) By the way Steve, have a nice day at the pool room, wish I were there.

I am heading down to the pool room myself today and hoping to find someone to play $50/$100 a game one pocket with. I might even be the sucker and don't care. I just want to PLAY!
If you waited for the nuts up here in Sacramento you would forget how to play. Tough times and people are tighter with their $$ than ever.

I'm down $640 myself from just the last two days. I haven't played pool in a while and was dead out of stroke but have been on vacation this week from work and want to gamble with these champions who play every day and do nothing else (so of course, they're part broke).
All I do is get in out-of-line games and give away money, but it beats work.

Good Luck John, according to the national news, Sacremento is not far away from "Martial Law".... Head for Placerville ! (unless of course, you have a real good game)

Blew $200 playing 9 Ball. NEVER broke & ran out in three sets.
I'll never beat the Ghost in Galveston playing like this. I'll try again this weekend.

Nick Varner said he played Artie in Chicago and knew who he was. The first time they played Varner said Artie won but Nick learned a lot about moving from him.
P.S. Nick also mentioned someone named Spencer that he played in Chicago who played pretty good. Anyone know who this Spencer was?

Demonrho;
I sure do, His name Tommy Spencer, played all pool games very well, he learned to play from his father, Pete Spencer an also strong player and very nice man from Chicago, taught Tommy at a very young age, 6 or 7yrs. old. I guess Tommy played his best in the late 70's, early 80's, best games were 9 ball and straight pool. I'm not sure if he still plays much anymore.
i think tom spencer played at this years derby. he had a 6 and a half hour marathon with daz appleton. spencer won and finished real high in the onepocket.

Tommy is still playing strong. He could still run a hundred in straight pool.
In the 70's and 80's he would play flawlessy and show concentration and focus that any newcomer to the game would be awed by.

I met Tommy at the Derby this year in January. We had a nice long conversation about a mutual friend, George Michaels, a longtime friend of Tommy's who has lived in Northern California for several years.
Tommy was involved in one of the most remarkable one pocket matches in the tournament at the Derby I have ever witnessed.
He drew Darrin Appleton from England, who is one of the best all around players in the world. One pocket is not his best game, but he is still a monster, placing 7th in the one pocket in 2008.
Darrin won the first two games in a race to three. In the third game we got to watch what the "Chicago" style of one pocket was all about. The game lasted around three hours and Tommy won. He went on to win the match in a little over six hours.
I never got to see him in his prime, but he can still play.

We sweated that session together, off and on John. It was pure torture... maybe the longest race to 3 in history.
Darren made a few bad shot selections (in both game 6 and 7) and allowed Spencer to get control. The guy is a "master squeezer"
He got Darren to play "his game". Thats where it all fell apart for DA....IMO

First time I met Tommy was at a tournament in Redwood City, a place called Town & Country Billiards I believe. This was back around 1969 or 70. We played a match in the semis I think and he beat me. He went on to win the tourney, that much I remember. Tommy was on the road way back then. I don't know what I was doing, just getting lost I imagine. I played "Frisco" Dave Piona on that trip in a poolroom in Sausilito. Anyone remember that place?
After spending time at The Palace and Cochran's, I moved on to Kips in Berkeley. I stayed there until the People's Park riots. That freaked me out and I headed back down South. Didn't see Tommy again until one of the Stardust tourneys I believe.
