After quite a few high finishes in One Pocket tournaments over the last few years, it's great to see Marco win this one!
In fact, in 1998 Marco lost to Buddy Hall in the finals of Grady's Baton Rouge Legends of One Pocket -- this time he turns the tables.
Marco played great every single match I watched, with good solid shot selection and real strong execution over and over again. He is such an intense competitor, with the rare ability to bear down in a key situation, and bring out a 110% performance, despite the pressure.
I remember Freddy Bentivegna commenting back in one of Marco's early Accustats appearances that Marco was still learning One Pocket, and hadn't yet quite arrived as a complete player yet -- well I guess he's arrived now!
I'll have more later...

The Pelican was taping the 1P finals, and probably others. You might contact him at this site. He's the nicest guy in the world (at least that's what he told me), so he'd probably be willing to make copies for a slight fee. I believe Rick said they would be mediocre quality, and only one camera.

Any info on the bank ring game? I heard that Shannon won, but I didn't hear any details. Looking forward to Steve's full report of the GCC.

I see where the prize money for one pocket surpassed 9 ball. Only Grady could do it. Its the toughest game and the most interesting in my book. Thanks Grady!
PS Hey Pel I'll buy a tape too!

Twister, there's some coverage (sort of) on AZbilliards.com. Look under "latest news" or something like that. The ring game became very exciting. Early on in looked to be Fargo, then Brumback; but then Daulton blew 'em out of the water with an excellent run of 8 banks at $1200 a pop. That's $9600 in about 10-15 minutes...

The $9600 came about because when Shannon ran 8, the value per bank was up to $400 @3 players left (besides Shannon) = 8x400x3=9600! Pretty good run, huh?
Tony Fargo also ran eight early on -- with the money at $100, IIRC.
Truman Hogue was the first eliminated; he just never had a good shot to get started...
Glen Rogers was next out. Shannon was down to less than $1000 early on (after they all started at $3000), but he climbed steadily back to be about even with Fargo, until he pulled out that strong run.
With no safety play allowed, Grady came up with the option to call a rail first kick -- which had to be at least three rails -- to make a ball. That allowed players to do something with the balls that accumulated in the jaws of the pockets. Shannon hit quite a few of those, and looked a whole lot more comfortable with the 3-rail kick than any of the other players, in fact. He shot it a few times with a number of other balls loose and open on the table, just because the three rail kick looked like the easiest shot.
He also tried to play a three-times-across bank in the side pocket 'A':
START(
%A\5Q0%CL1F1%De4S4%GF5N9%H`2O2%Iq8R5%Li8W7%P]1J9%QZ6A2%Rs5B2
%U^2Z7%V\8Q7%W^1D5%X^0[3%Y\0D9%Z]4[1%[]5Z5%\]8C4%]\7O6%^\9K5
)END
Of course I don't know why he didn't just bank the three ball straight back into pocket 'B' :)
I've got a few pics -- just need a little time to get them posted...
