This layout is from game 7 of their 2000 World One-Pocket match. This is the deciding game and Richie Richeson has just banked the 6 ball cross-corner and left himself this position. What do you think he did? What would you do?
The first time I saw this layout(on the T.V. screen) I knew exactly what I would do and the reasons why.

I would play the 5-11 combo and get my rock behind the 15-10-2, if I make it then great I should have another shot but if not and I get it close I should be okay. :) NEXT!
i like lennys shot. it gets another ball by his hole.and makes the reply difficult
i thought about moving the 15 10 2 ( the 15 would combo the 10 to my pocket the 15 kiss off the 2 towards my pocket and the 2 would hit the short rail and come up table)and the q would roll to the end rail but i give away blockers and it would a candidate for circus shot. no need at this stage.
this shot is too passive leaves a clear view of the balls you need to clear but does leave distance.but easily doable. would most of you want to leave the thirteen where it is and not disturb it now?
i still like lennys shot

You might need to be more careful than just "behind" those balls, because the 13 banks clean for Alex, and the way 4, 7 & 14 lie on Richie's side, it looks like if you did that, Alex could bank at the 13 and send the cue ball up to the other end of the table and any of those combo's would be too tough to warrant shooting. 'Course, I don't know what Alex would shoot next if he did bank the 13, lol.
I don't see any natural little caroms either -- maybe the 5 off of the 8, but it doesn't look like you could play that and hold the cue ball anywhere safe.
I might duck off of the 13 behind the that same 15-10-2, like this (page one) or even slide off the 13 the other way, up toward the far end (page two).
I don't see a natural offensive shot...

I like this shot but would favor missing the 11 on the low side to bring the 14 into play. I think it gives the shot a larger margin for error for controlling the cue ball and the object balls.

I think Lenny's shot is good, and it's probably what Richie did. A safe/trap alternative is this. If the CB doesn't hide, it still leaves nothing: ~Doc

If I wasn't playing safe, this would be another option. ;) If I was page #2

Here's what Richie did shoot. Personally, I liked rolling the 13 to the center of the table and leaving the cueball near the side-pocket rail.

i considered going off the 13 as steve and rod did to get behind the cluster. but rod why make the 13 to put it on the spot when you could move it to your side??

Larry, It's easier for me to control the CB shooting easy, anyway the spot is close to my side.

Does anybody care to speculate what Alex shot from here, before I show it?

Looking at it, seems he's in a bit of jam. Only thing I can think of is try and get blocked on the 8 somehow and hope to get some of the crap away from his hole.
Then again, others may take a scratch or do something really smart instead of something like this. But I don't think Alex is much of a bunter.:)

My guess is he tried to move some balls with some force follow:
http://CueTable.com/P/?@3ACjd3BOpj3CGnB4DPfK4EIvb4FTyM4GSXE3HKSJ3IAqN3JLfW4KRDD3LDli3MVwL4NYfS3OPFs3PXNo4RdOt3eLfW4eVlT4eWrl4eXYW3eITU4fRDD3fCHV4iYfS4icAO4iXhM4iTHN4ibog4iOlw3kXNo3kNrP4kUfk4kWrb@

I'm going to say he banked the 13, given that the balls are clustered up a bit on Richie's side, and he figured to shoot the 15-ball next -- which would be rewarding...

You win a cookie. He did bank the 13, then shot the 15(and made the 14) and got out of line and played safe.
