After not stepping up to a table for 6 years I have been back to playing now for about 2 months. Anyone who has ever gone though one of these long layoffs can tell you it takes a little time to get back to the speed you once were. And no I was not in prison:)
I stumbled upon this site about a month ago and gotta say this forum has become one of my favorite sites.
Cowboy Dennis, not sure if you would remember me I played a lot at the old cushion & cue above Thunderbowl back in the 90's. You were the first person to ever show me about one pocket.

Welcome to the site Tim. A lot of great info and players on this site. Just ignore SJDinPHX and you'll be O.K.. Freddy the Beard and the OnePocketGhost are veritable fonts of information and always have great information for us.
I'm sorry but I don't recall you just yet, maybe you will jog my poor memory with a tale or two. Was Kenny Goldenberg working up there then? Did we ever play?
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the site, it's great.

Kenny was still there when I first started out in High School going there. Big Dan was there and even a few years after him before the place went to crap. I was just a punk kid back in those days a few years younger than Larry T.
Best memory of you was watching ya beat a kid named Justin with the end of a plunger. Me and you never really played much maybe just knocking them around, I was smart enough with my money to stay away from you at the time.

I remember playing Justin with the plunger. We played 9-Ball and he spotted me something for a few bucks. Most of his extra cash went towards marijuana if I recall correctly. The thing about breaking a 9-Ball rack with the rubber end of a plunger is the speed of the cueball when struck squarely. It flies. A couple of times I miscued on the break(actually scooped it up) and sent the cueball to the other end of the room. I had to use the other end to shoot though and the thing was only maybe 3 feet long, if that. We had fun though.

Welcome to the site.
I had the opposite results as you. I took about 10 years off and came back the first day and played a ball and a half better than I ever did before.
Go figure..
Anyway, welcome, nice people here, you will like it.

Tim,
I haven't seen Larry or Dan in a long time. I sold Larry my old Joss East, the best hittin' cue I've ever struck a ball with. Larry ended up marrying that blonde girl who came up there. I can't recall her name right now.
Kenny G. died several years ago. I guess it's not a good idea to drink codeine cough syrup for 30 years along with everything else he put in his body.
It was the Wild West up there for a while though, when he was there. You could buy any drug known to man and quite a bit of hot merchandise too. If it wasn't in the backroom, it was in the trunk of his car. Naturally he robbed the place for all he could get too.
Kenny saved me a few hundred dollars a couple of times by turning off the lights and closing a few minutes early. Once when I was staking Dominick for $300 in a 7 ahead game playing Andre. We were down 5 games and I asked Kenny to pull the plug early:) . That's when Andre (and Dave Fritz) learned that unless there's an agreement beforehand there is no "by the game" payoff in an ahead session.
The other time Kenny saved me I was giving Ricky Gracyk 8-6 for $100 a game. That wasn't a real smart thing to do but I ain't no genius.
I think I'm starting to remember you Tim.

Tim,
Welcome to the forum. Don't believe a bad word about Dick that is said. He does have his fan club around here. :)
What about all us guys who never took a long period off and still shoot like crap?
Best wishes and I hope you enjoy the one pocket guys on the site. Most of us are a couple of balls worse than we talk, some of us several balls worse!
Happy to have you on board.

Yes it was fun for all, well maybe not so much for Justin and yes I'm pretty sure he spent every last dime he ever had on the green grass.

From what I remember about every 4 out of 5 people that worked there had some form of drug for sale and robbed the place blind. There were a few years mixed in there that I never paid a dime for table time.

Tim,
It's lucky that you got there 6 years ago. SJD says they are trying to pass a law in AZ to prevent us Michiganders from moving there:) . I don't know how far you are from Tempe but Kolbys poolroom is there. Fast Lenny runs one-pocket tourneys there and streams them online. Do you play any?

I have heard many good things about Kolbys and the level of play that is in that room. I need to get my stroke back in shape before I go play there so I don't make a arse out of myself. I am a big fan of Lenny's web site and his streaming games. It was that site by which I found this one so thanks Lenny. I have benn playing a little one pocket but mostly straight pool until I tune my stroke back in.
