Again you prove to be my hero, Steve. I can't thank you enough for the things you do and have done for the One Pocket fans and players alike. Terrific interview with one of my earliest instructors.

Loved it, Loved it, :D Im calling Eddie Taylor in am to read it!!! Ps The legg thing I have! I'll tell you story on it later, Dad & Sq story, Ha Ha :D Sounds like the guy that had that leg thing was a heck of a card player, and may have also done a little 'coaching' at cards, which might explain why he just happened to have such a thing.

I've just added another old photo of Sonny's father's little old country barbershop/poolroom, the very table where Sonny first squared off against UJ Puckett.

Besides the leg buzzer story, my favorite comment of Sonny's is when he was talking about Clem (Eugene Metz). When he quotes Clem -- one of the all-time conservative One Pocket players -- referring to players that go for the wilder shots as "hurricane players" :) That's a great description of the way he must have seen the emerging 'power One Pocket' style of the then young players like Ronnie Allen -- known for moving half the rack on a single shot!

Man I loved that interview...captured the true essence of Sonny that's for sure.

Now if I may share a few "Sonny" experiences.

Sonny and RH I guess met around the mid to early 90s to the best of my knowledge. But one day Sonny comes into the poolroom Southern Billiards, screws together his cue and starts playing one handed. He breaks and runs the entire rack of 9 ball...one handed...with the lights off. Miss Cindy comes out and says heck Sonny, I aint letting you play for free and puts him on the clock. Sonny acts all mad, but smiles and then proceeds to start practicing one hole, waiting on RH to get in from school. I was floored...one handed...in the dark...he runs a rack...on a Diamond with those tight pockets...I am still amazed.

Then Sonny starts working with me some, shows me how to do a cross bank where I get the cue out of the way and make it in the opposite corner. He really had patience with me and I got to where I could make that shot about 80 percent of the time. I could make it with the object ball just a ball's width off the head rail...pretty impressive shot to me at the time. Then he started working with me on position...and I would spend hours watching him and RH play...he really brought RH into the game of one hole.

He would get to coughing hard sometimes...and slip out to his truck for some "medicine", usually a sip of Evan Williams or something. I still smile when I think about him smiling and pulling up his pants...he always seemed to need a belt HA HA.

Yeah, safe to say...I miss Sonny and RH playing one hole.
