Just a bit off topic but the Missouri State 9 Ball Championship was held over the weekend and one of our own has captured the title, again, after a 24 year absence.

My congratulatiions to my friend, Tom "Old Has Been" Ferry, on his winning the Missouri state 9 ball championship and the $2,500 first prize. Tom beat another of my good friends, the up and coming, Chuck Raulston.

Imagine, 24 years later and you come back to win it again. Tom, has almost 40 years on, Chuck. As well as 100 lbs. or so. My friend, you done good. Best of luck in the future,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$Bill

Thanks for the congrats, $Bill.
Chuck Raulston was about all I could handle (and almost didn't) after playing 10 hours on Saturday & 13 hours on Sunday. What a gentleman to compete against and NO, I don't want to play him anymore. I think that is what surprised me the most. The fact that I could still hold up for that long.
Phil Spudich, his lovely wife and the entire staff at Rack & Roll, ARE what is still great about Pool. The conditions, equipment, food and pool fans made this a tournament I will never forget.
My Wife (who was with me when I won the First Missouri State Championship back in '82) couldn't believe it when I called on my way home with the news. She said she was glad that I could still do "Some Things" the same way I did in '82 because she knew of quite a few I couldn't still do quite as well.
AND THAT JUST CONFIRMS THAT I'M STILL AN - "OLDHASBEEN".

Tom, congratulations on your impressive win!! You'll have to change your nickname to "Old But Still Tough"! Remember, Irving Crane was still winning championships into his mid 60's...

Doc - For about 6 weeks now I have been trying to play this certain fellow some serious pool. When we last spoke about 2 weeks ago, he & I agreed on a game to play pretty soon. Well he came in Monday and walked right up to me. I was sure we were going to play the game previously mentioned & agreed on.
He stuck out his hand and wanted to congratulate me on winning the big tourney in Columbia. Said OUR game would need some adjustments to proceed. Oh Well - I guess you really can't have your cake & eat it too.

In another poolroom here in town, I went in to just get a phone # of an old friend and a fellow comes up and asked me to play a set for $200. I had never seen this guy in my life and he didn't look like a player so I played. He couldn't play a lick. I asked him why he would ask me in particular to play and he says he heard of the Missouri State Championship over the weekend and just wanted to be able to say we played.

Wow - Talk about both ends of the spectrum.
