View Full Version : Ghost's Shot Choice #7

Ok, I was in this situation yesterday...:(...
My shot --- I have pocket A --- The score is 6-6 --- And the guy I'm playing is one pocket-smart, plays and banks real good - as a reference point...he plays about a ball better than John Henderson...
What am I gonna do?...I want to clear out the 13 ball, but I'll leave him a straight back bank on the 1 or the 5 just about anywhere I leave him....the 2-rail angle on the 1 to my pocket is not on....the 13 is froze, and the table doesn't roll perfectly straight, so I can't really comfortably slow-roll at the 13 to clip it up one diamond along his long rail either....and if I shoot some soft tippy-toe shot involving the 1ball, it could get worse for me, leaving that 13 by his pocket...
Ok, what happened was, I shot, and I executed my shot at 90% (100% being perfect)...
Well, 90% wasn't good enough (and let me cry a little and say - pretty bad luck on the leave I got) - after my shot, he ran two and out and won the game...:(...
What shot do you guys think I shot? - And what do you think I left him/what did his two and out consist of?
Also, in addition, feel free to add what shot you would have chose.
- Ghost
PS, Hey Bernie, you gonna guess it right again?....:)

I'll do my best to describe my shot since I no longer have the ability to edit a wei table.. :(
I would 2 rail the 13 ball to the opposite corner and run my cue ball two rails behind the 1.
It would be a fairly firm shot so you wouldn't have to worry about roll out but if it plays bad it could leave a 1 rail for an opponent.

This, hit it just like a pocket speed 4-railer. Just not to the pocket. Or option 2 below, with a tad of inside to shorten the 1. Either way the point is to make the kick a stretch.

So you were giving him a ball or two.
I would probably fire the two railer at my hole and get it over one way or the other.

nfgs....The trouble with those 2 shots is that if the balls end up with him having any kind of angle at all - he'll be banking the 1 or the 5 cross corner to his hole - or combo-bank both of them to his hole.

And I'm still waiting for someone to correctly answer the riddle...
What did I shoot, and which two balls/shots did he make afterwards to run out?

I set it up. Page 1 is what I shot. Page 2 is what my 13 y/o came up with. :)

I'll take a stab at it. You 2 railed the 13, played whitey 4 rails into the one. You got too deep behind the one and knocked it out far enough he could bank it cross corner. Then he banked the 13 straght back. Or, maybe he shot the one into the bottom of the 5 making the 5 and putting the one in front of his pocket and made it.

This maybe what you shot. He may of had a free shot at the 5 ball if your CB slipped away 10%.;)

Ghost,
I'm good.....but not that good:p
Can ya throw us a bone?.......can you at least tell us whether you were playing a ball to your hole....or (given that you executed 90%) I'm guessing a shot that made your opponent have to "shoot"?
Thanks.

Yo Ghost,
What about a kick one rail on the 1 ball with a bunch of low right. It is flirting with a scratch (depending on pocket size) but if you hit it good enough that the 1 ball hits the side rail near your pocket it could come out pretty safe.

Larry.....I looked at Rod's first suggestion that you're talking about - that shot was not a viable option because I didn't have enough angle on the 1 = ...if I hit the 1 straight ahead, it'll only get to the middle of the foot rail, and he'll then razor slice it over towards his pocket, and I'll be in worse trouble on my next shot...if I try to cut the 2-rail angle slightly to get it closer to my pocket, then I'll leave him a bank on the 5.

Ok, the answer is, I of course shot the shot that Dud liked right off the bat in post #2, and that skin, blackee, and Rod also chose......for those of you on the forum learning - that's a standard One Pocket players shot, often used when there's just one ball left on the table, and that final ball and the cueball are positioned as they are in my original layout...
Anyway, I hit it pretty good, but went into the 3rd rail/long rail higher and little shorter than I was wanting/needing to - not quite long enough to get him snookered behind the 1 - instead ending up above the 1 :(...and I get punished with the cueball ending up leaving him a perfect angle to not only bank the 1, but also to drag the cueball along the bottom rail for perfect shape on the 13 ball (the f'in 13 didn't have to end up there either ), and he's out.
Good old One Pocket...as we all know...it's a game of inches, and often times fractions of inches.

Sometimes a shot like that comes down to an inch or two as everyone here knows. That was a tough roll to leave him straight on the 1....
