View Full Version : Weird forum names

I've noticed something for a long time here on the site that has puzzled me, and maybe other members have wondered about it also...

When I look down at the bottom of the forum page to see who's on the site at the moment, oftentimes there's members with crazy, long gobbledygook names on the forum...but they're such random jumbles of letters, and there's so many of them, that I find it hard to believe that so many people would pick these goofy names...

I don't see names like these over at azbilliards....maybe the weird name lurkers can shed some light on this for me....or maybe Steve just assigns random letters/numbers for names for lurkers?....anybody have a clue?....Yesterday, I copied and saved some of these names - and these are only a sample of names that were on the forum yesterday.....here they are >>>

D1p7ubors, MUkosaywx, Orepescoste, Sypediaryinia, uinhopusai, UPdownno,
ETENNYGOOPULP, DOtothesou, JetZoopatmode, pariloopsoxan, KAlnaisd, KUrosawna, stevelvhom, tifeteaseri, xiong7Vb, spencejewellq

WTF, Ghost....:D

PS, I'm picturing one of these members choosing his onepocket.org forum name, and he's trying to decide between One Pocket Joe and ETENNYGOOPULP, and he decides on ETENNYGOOPULP as the better name....:o..:D

Usually spammers or scouts but the names you have there look like standard lurkers.

And at least they only pick goofy names, and not goofy kick shots...lol

they're automated bots that try to sign up for any forum initiated by spammers. They design programs to look for certain things that tell them there is a forum or blog somewhere and then scripts tell it to try and sign up and post a spam message. You know the type.. Viagra crap.. selling something.

Steve has to delete hundreds of these types that make it thru the filters. It's a constant battle between good and evil to try and keep those "attacks" from happening.

You don't see them post, because they have to be approved by Steve and he catches 99% of them. Makes for a lot of extra work on his part because of this idiots.

Oh yeah, Ghosty, I think I recall seeing that in Barlett's Familiar Quotations.

'...only KNOWN player's are on ... Dip7dubors, or Mukasoax, ...'

Dip7dubors is a legendary pickpocket out of Wasilla. Usually takes him about two strolls up and down the line and the rail is broke and didn't even know the game was in progress.

By any chance does anybody on here know how good Orepescoste, or Sypediaryinia play?...

Tell'em $40.00 a game. You should be in good shape I think they're both dyslexic. :)

Orepescoste was in town a week ago, and matched up with a guy who was delivering a pizza. I believe he jumped the table lagging for the break.

Sypediaryinia is the better of the two. He plays pretty good jacked up nine ball, having lost an arm in a tussle with an unpaid hooker named Amazing Grace a couple of months ago. I think FastLenny taped the encounter. He begged for his arm back but she squeezed it off anyway. It was a thing of beauty to watch Grace make Sypediaryinia's right arm disappear for all time. She is true to her name.

I'm getting kind of scared now - I think they might be taking over :o...there's 10 more of them on here right now - >>> AxorrorsDox, elpepelui, MNctrlas, reeckitout8, UPdownstt, affecePottalf, Balbess, Liapapozy, uinhopusaizand, and Appeapsrura.....If any of you guys are real, say hello now!....:D

Ok Greg, thanks for splainin'...but I'm still not sure about what you said, because...

You said - "they have to be approved by Steve and he catches 99% of them"...
...but I keep seeing these names at the bottom of the forum page being referred to by the forum declaration saying, 'welcome to our newest member'

So if Steve has to approve them, like you say...then why are they all being welcomed as new members?...Appeapsrura is being 'welcomed' right now.

Steve, maybe you can also tell us about this.

PS, AxorrorsDox, elpepelui, MNctrlas, reeckitout8, UPdownstt, affecePottalf, Balbess, Liapapozy, uinhopusaizand, and Appeapsrura, you can all get 10-7...

They both gave me a little weight and robbed me.

I told them to use different names when they tried to match up with you.

Think of it like this. This forum uses Vbulletin software. The page that brings up the New Registration page is the file called register.php. So the spammers write a script that looks for a forum, then calls the register.php page, their presented with a page that tells them to accept terms and click register, the script does that... then the script fills in a username (a simple random user name generator script does this, so there's never the same one) fills in a password and clicks submit.

At this point they have became a "New Member" but Steve has it setup so all new members have to be approved before they can do anything on the board. So he has to wade thru 100's of these spam New Members and try to find the legitimate ones and approve them and not approve/delete the other 99% of them.

So while they hold the status of a New Member, they can't do anything because their sitting in a approval queue waiting to be approved or not approved. If they are approved a script is waiting to tell them to start posting spam. They're like a interim New Member while they wait in the queue. Once approved they can become a participating New Member and post and all, or they just get sh1t-canned on the spot.

That's one of the most tedious tasks for Steve, is wading thru all that crap and hoping he doesn't delete a real New Member. As you get used to what the crap looks like and learn the signs of a real vs a fake new member, it gets a little easier, but still very time consuming.

Once he upgrades to a newer version of Vbulletin, there are more up to date spam protections, such as the Captcha, which is the program below that you see on so many sites. It's designed to make a human type in the words to verify it's human, because a computer can't figure that out. It would fail at that point.

Although some of the older Captcha programs might me compromised, as in this site http://www.duo-creative.com/chrisb/authimage/ someone talks about how they were able to write something that got rid of the colored background, making it black and white and then were able to figure it out. They've stopped that with newer Captcha programs that make it near impossible for a computer program to break.

Is Ronnie still alive to confirm I played him 9 to 7 at Big Mamas in 71-72? I had heard that you knew him. Do you have his phone number? If not, I do.

You also mentioned you were bosum pals with Eddie Kelly. Do you have his phone number? I dont unfortunately. I "niche" gamed him at onepocket in the Stardust and 9 ball at The Childress in KY.

By the way, do you have Surfer Rod Curry's number? I'd like to call him and ask him if he was really as big a sucker as you have portrayed him.

RA has Henderson and I, on speed dial (AKA, bite list) ahead of 911...And yes, I do happen to have both those other numbers...However, Rod and Kelly both told me not to give them to anyone from Chicago..:D

Rod did say it was OK to give you his website....http://konnections.net/rodcurry/... (it's a little old, but its still up) Talked to him a few months. ago...and tried to talk him into joining the zoo here...He'd fit right in.
By the way, it was Puckett who labeled him "A traveling pool sucker"...I just agreed with him..:D

PS..Never said Kelly and I were "bosum buddies" but we are old friends....I just said he liked me waaaaay better than YOU....go figure..:p

Please dont ask me to tell the story of how I probably ruined Eddie Kelly's stroke, and may have been a factor in shortening his career. --- Dont rush to any conclusions, it had nothing to do with me playing him. It started out at Johnston City with him bragging about having a perfectly pendulum stroke, just like Eddie Taylor's........
