I have played plenty of one hole but a couple of things have always puzzled me. Maybe you guys can make thing more clear for me.

Question one, how much of an advantage is there to break to corner right or corner left if you're a right handed person. What is your preference and why?
Whenever I have played break apiece I liked to play that we both break for the same pocket but mainly so that we can remember who broke last.

Second question is when a wedge game develops, do you prefer the balls on your side, the other side, or is it one of those things that just happens.
If you have a preference, why?

P.S. I may make it to the senior ball coming up at the DCC. Maybe there might be some dance cards open to pencil me in. Saving my SS checks too.

Didn't know anything about a Sr. Ball, but I will be there for 10 days. Hope you can make it (someone to bite). Hope to see you up here for the Markulis Memorial 9 ball.

Frank, I'm right handed and don't shoot very well off handed. I prefer pocket A because of the shot on the 4 ball diagramed below. You can walk up to these shots and not play across your body as you would if CB B was your shot at the four and you had the opposite pocket.
Rod <----hope this makes sense :)
PS, Down the long rail shots are fairly easy from either side with a crutch.

I prefer the left hole. My personal reason is I break stronger that way, and when I practice, I take that side, because the opponent always takes the right hole on their break. This has made me a lot more comfortable with the varying stances and positions presented.

When I practice one hole, I play left hand against right, and play 9-7. Last time I was in stroke My left was ahead a little bit, but not enough to adjust the spot. That said, the table getting in the way doesn't bother me as far as shotmaking goes.

If I play an opponent that is obviously comfortable to the right, I will take that side, reducing his comfort, but as far as level of play I see little difference between the two pockets. Generally, If I am going for the kill, I break from the right selecting the left hole.

Of course, that could all just mean I play really really weak....

I prefer the wedge to be on my opponents side if I need a lot of balls. You can knock em off and not leave him a shot.

some people might shoot cut shots or bank better to one side or the other. that would influence which side to break to

Without taking anything else into consideration, such as high side, low side, better cut pocket, etc., the generally preferred place to break from, based on being able to reach without a bridge more makeable shots is, right handed break to right pocket, left handed break to left pocket. Androd expained a few more reasons.

The wedge, as Blackee noted, is probably much better to occur on your oppo's side. Main reason as Keith said, is you can knock balls off and when they are spotted they dont point at his pocket. Another reason is one of the main ways a wedge is created. That is, when your oppo has a plurality of balls on his side of the uptable position, many times your best strategy, rather than try to shoot them all away, it's much easier to just continue to add more clumping them up to where there is no straight back or 3 railer.

Grady M. maintains that there are advantages to both, but that they even out. So it doesn't really matter. I agree.

NJS,

Of course, a slim guy like you has a little less trouble with either side. As you grow older, are a little less flexible and have a little more beer gut in the path, it does make a hair more difference but, all-in-all not that big a difference. I have found that i more often make a choice on on how I think a pocket is taking balls better or rolling straighter on a particular side.

Then I miss from that side. :(
