Hey all. Diggin' the site, btw. Thanks to all those involved in the setup and the participation.

I was flipping through Upscale One Pocket the other night and read the section on cues. The author is pretty particular about the subject.

Anyone use a special cue for one hole? Lighter? Thinner? Different taper or balance? Any specs you think are really important for the game to be played right? Or are you better off getting used to a cue that will serve the purpose to the best of it's abilities in all games?

Regards,
Mike G.

I think your better off playing with your regular cue. Sometimes I have switched to a slightly lighter cue if the table is slow. That cue has a smaller shaft at 13mm and a pro taper. I'm not real fond of the taper but it helps speed, for me. I'd think you'd have to play a lot of one hole to justify a special cue.

I don't know about cue, but I did switch my tip over to a softer tip a few years ago in an effort to cut down on miscues. Compared to 9-Ball, in One Pocket you have a lot more need for soft hits -- often with quite a bit of english. I found I was miscuing alot with my previous tip. I ended up switching to a Talisman soft, cut down about a third to reduce a little of the 'mushy' feel. They work pretty well for all those soft spins -- as long as I remember to chalk :) :)

I would guess any cue that would work well for Straight Pool would work well for One Pocket too. Any finesse type game, for that matter. But 9-ball can be played more at your speed of choice and thus tends to see a lot more firm hits, where a harder tip excells, IMHO...

Come on guys don't blow this, my one pocket cue will done next week. If my wife finds out you don't really need a different cue for each game my ass will be grass! We gotta stick together on this!

Have a great day

I don't know about a special cue specifically for 1-Pocket, but I prefer about 18.5 oz, 12.75mm, "modified" pro taper with a Talisman Pro Soft tip.
(By "modified", I mean the taper isn't exactly parallel the first 8"-10"-12", but very gradually increases.)
But then I use the same cue for those 9-Ball games I very occasionally get talked into playing.
