Speaking of black players, can anyone ID these players from one of the Jansco brother's Stardust events?

They probably date from the early 70's

The guy in the leather? jacket could be a man named Kenny who I first met about 1980 at California Billiards in San Jose. Kenny was from Chicago as I remember and was in the catering business. He has since passed.

The guy on the left looks like a young Cecil Tugwell. The guy on the right is "Youngblood" Jimmy Brown.
John would know better than I. Apparently it isn't Kenny from the old Cal Billiards. I stand corrected.

The guy in the middle looks a lot like Black Rudy. Who passed away recently. A high roller and money man. Not a top player.

I remember the 1st time Youngblood came to Johnston City. He made some good, large scores in the first few days. No one really knew him and his banking skills were tremendious. Some of the best bank-pool matches I've ever seen were between Youngblood, Truman, Rusty & Bugs. I'm sure there were others but after all, I AM AN "OLD"hasbeen.

TY & GL Youngblood came in the Golden Cue in Rosemead with "LA Moe" & I played him some one pocket. When he started banking them in off the end rail on the fly, I pulled up a few games stuck. I got lucky because he had just returned from Canada and thought he could play a little snooker. I played him a set on the 5 x 10 and got my $$ back plus a little extra. He was a regular at the local race tracks (as was I) and I used to run into him fairly often at the track or pool rooms around LA. I ALSO AM AN OLD HAS BEEN, but still tee it up once and a while.

Left to right, a young Cecil The Serpent Tugwell, Rudy Oliver, and James Youngblood Brown. They were all from LA at the time. Rudy couldnt run 3 balls but he played high and was involved in the Friars Club Gin Rummy scandal in early 70's. Guys like Milton Berle and George Burns were getting robbed playing Gin, but thats another story. Rudy was one of the lucky ones that didnt go to jail. I was in a black poolroom in Detroit with James when somebody he owed money to, pulled a gun and started shooting. James grabbed the biggest guy he could find and hoisted him up as a human shield to hide behind while a guy called Cadillac Willy was trying to shoot him. I dove under a pool table. James ended the assault by throwing his (and my) bankroll in the air (about 640$). People diving for the money interupted the attack and we were able to get out alive.

I showed the pictures to some old timers at Hardtimes in Bellflower and a couple of you guys hit right on the head. Cecil when he shot right handed, Rudy who Calvin recognized immediately as a heavy money backer and Jimmy Youngblood. "Cowboy" also remembered them from Charlie O'Neals in L.A.
These old timers have a ton of knowledge. I'm not sure one should play a black man over 55 unless he has a seeing eye dog with him.

Cecil says it is not him.
He says he never had a natural that big and never had facial hair like that. He does say that the bridge looks like his, sort of, with the two fingers together. I told him that a bridge is can be sort of like someones face.
He says the natural is almost like a wig. He says he always had a high forehead. And the eyebrows in the photo are too bushy.
And I think the nose is too long in this photo. Cecil's nose is definitely shorter and smaller.
He did point out the partition in the background. He suggested the Stardust. But he made no follow-up comment about this.
But then again there's been a lot of water under the bridge and people have ways.
But this is what he told me just today.
Oh, yeah. He did say he has seen this guy before. I just smiled thinking, maybe, yeah. Like in the mirror years ago. But he insisted that it is not him.
Go figure.

I just posted this and now I am going to edit it. I just blew up the photo in my IE browser to 200% and I got a good look at the grip of the right hand and you know what: although Cecil shoots left handed now, it sure looks like his grip. I'm going to point this out to him the next time I see him.

I'm glad you revived this old thread, JM. It reminds me how much I miss Old Has Been. What a great guy and so much fun. RIP, my friend.

You can bet parts of your body that it's Cecil. It was around that time that he and I played all the time (when he was a righty).

The verdict is in: IT'S CECIL.
I'll take that as fact.
Thank you.

No JAM thats Rudy Oliver. On old time go to guy for the cash. He passed away a while ago. An interesting man who's life could fill a book. A big backer. Used to back Ed Kelly and such. Was in a lot of money schemes. ( read Freddy's post)

I spoke with Cecil the other day and he was with one of his old running buddies: a guy who was with Cecil a lot when he was shooting right-handed. I was showing them some of those legends video clips of Johnston City then I showed them the right-handed Cecil picture.
And sure enough his buddy, whose name I didn't get which I will get, said sure it was Cecil. Of course it is Cecil. He was positive. And Cecil was right there, too.
