Hi everyone, I am new to the board. NH Steve gave me the link in another Forum I had found. This is my first post, so I would like to thank NH Steve
for sending me the link. I Live in St.Pete FL, I am 46 and have been playing Pool since I was a kid. I won the Sunshine 8-Ball Tournament in 1991 and 1992. Steve Cook taught me how to play One Pocket in the late 80's. He was working at Bakers Billiards across the Bay in Tampa. Every Sunday morning I
would meet him at Bakers and we would play One Pocket for hours before he had to open the room. I was a decent shooter and pretty good at playing safe, but Steve took my game to a whole new level. I really enjoyed the time we spent together and am very thankful I had the opportunity to learn from such a great player.

Welcome! I'm new to this forum myself, but I think you'll enjoy it a lot. Man, you learned from the best - I can't think of a better 1P teacher than Steve. Charly Justice, whom I'm sure you know, once told me that of all the players he matched up with (which was everybody), Steve tied him up in knots and made him feel more helpless than anyone he ever played. In his prime, Steve could 8-0 good players all day long. Anyway, I'm in Orlando so if you're ever at Orlando Billiards Center, look me up (Jeff). GO BUCS!

Hey Jeff, I've never met or seen Charley Justice play....But about 7 years ago I traveled all around Florida for the winter and I met these two nice old guys who were long-time Florida/Deep-South USA area backers of different players, and I remember them once telling me that Charley Justice had the talent to be a champion if he had better discipline and had not 'self medicated' himself all his life....Do you agree with this ?.....And by the way, they said the same thing about Scotty Townsend - they said that Scotty could have been as good as any player in the country if not for excessive 'self medicating'.

Speaking only of Scotty T., Ghost, drugs has never been a problem for him. Oh, that's right, Alcohol is a drug, isn't it, LOL. Just kidding. Scotty is a good friend, as he is to virtually all the people who know him. He does like his juice and will gladly admit it. No player I have ever known is more fun to be around.

Those were good years to be hanging in Bakers. The payball game on the snooker table, the food was great & the owners were too. Having Cookie school you in 1 pocket was a gift from the pool gods...welcome to the board!! Where do ya play now?

Welcome to OnePocket.org. You must have also played a little with Lefty Goff at Bakers.

I play at the Flamingo on the Gold Crown in the front room.
I have not been in Bakers since 2000. I am overdue to make a trip over there.

Besides Steve, I used to hang with Wayne Gunn, Jay Flowers, Rocky Tillis and
"WD" Bill Stigall. And a bunch of other guys. :)

Ghost - As for Charley, he had the heart and knowledge of a champion; I don't know if he could have been a champion with or without meds (I never saw him in his prime) and hate to speculate since he's no longer with us, but it pretty much took a champ to beat him at 1P or banks. Saw Scotty give Charlie Williams last 2 on a triple-shim, 10 ahead, and held up strong until beer ran out at 2.00 a.m. (this was about 3 years ago BTW). Never saw anyone who could drink and play as well as Scotty. Two real good guys.
