Hey Hendy, I see you have mentioned golf table a couple of times lately. Do you mean playing golf on the snooker table? If so, that's great! We used to have non stop golf games going on all of the time at Beechmont Billiards before it closed. Depending on the players we would play 10/1 or 20/2 which was $10 per man and $1 for every hickey (foul). Winner takes all.

Are we talking about the same thing?

Yes we are. CA Billiards in Fremont has two 6 x 12 snooker tables and one is set up with Simonis tournament blue for golf. We played some $20/2 six handed last weekend during the West Coast Challenge tournament. I won the last game we played with a long three rail bank to the out hole.

Golf is my favorite game after one pocket. I grew up playing snooker and golf on 5 x 10s in southern CA and CA Billiards is the only place to play up here. It is a 2 1/2 hour drive for me and I make it down every month or so or when they have a big tournament like this one.

That's awesome! Yes I enjoyed playing it as well back in the day. The only bad part about it was when you drew pills for shooting order (or however you determined it), whoever followed the weakest player was the favorite to win because they would leave more shots than the tougher opponents...

I don't know if they have any snooker tables at Lacy's but if so, we should drum up a game, it would be fun!

actually just looked on their website and it doesn't appear they have a snooker table but they do have a 5 x 10....if we end up not using it for the tourney, maybe we can try some golf on that bad boy!

Me too, never played golf but curious as to how it is played. However locally here we do play a bastardized variation on standard 4-1/2 x 9 tables called "Around the World" that from golf descriptions I've heard isn't much at all like the golf Hendy is talking about. I'd be happy to introduce "Roundy" to anyone who is interested at Lacy's.

Yes the right hand side is the 6 and final hole (if he is playing the same golf I played for years many years ago).

Here is the quick version:

After you decide the shooting order and who follows who, everyone picks a ball that will be their own for the whole game.

First player spots his ball on the spot and takes ball in hand (normally in the D on a snooker table but behind the line I suppose if we were playing on the 5x10) and then tries to bank the ball to the bottom right hand corner pocket (the 1 hole). If he makes it the ball gets spotted back on the spot and the CB stays wherever it ended up and he is now shooting at the bottom left hand corner (the 2 hole).

If he misses, he should be playing pocket speed to get it somewhere close and then the next shooter spots his ball up and gets ball in hand for the initial shot again shooting for the 1 hole.

You keep doing that until all players have their first shot. From there you just take turns trying to make it in your hole. You cant move to hole 2 until you make it in the 1 hole, you cant move to hole 3 until you make hole 2, etc.

So when it's your turn, if you dont have a shot at your hole, one of the main things you want to focus on is not leaving the guy who follows you a shot at thier hole (which could be different than the hole you are on!).

Anytime someone fouls, their ball comes off the table and they get a hickey which we usually kept track of on a chalk board near the table. When playing on a snooker table we counted fouls as scratching in the hole, not hitting your ball, hitting someone else's ball before yours or pocketing someone else's ball at anytime during your shot. We also played rail first then touching the ball was good, it didn't have to be rail after contact. Whoever makes their ball in all 5 holes in order and then sinks their ball in the last hole wins the cheese. If you were playing 20/2 that would be $20 x 5 opponents + all the hickeys added up. at $2 each.

So you may lose 30 but could win 150-200, pretty good odds

Probably similar to Steve's round the table and John's golf games I am guessing with some slight variations.

i have never played it but think it would be fun to try
