Love the poster!!!

Well, thanks to Red Card we all will get a poster! He has generously donated 100 dollars to get posters made up for the tournament members with the remaining funds to be donated to the general .org fund. He also mentioned he might come by and visit with us. How cool are the people on here! Thanks Chuck!

We are also considering having a open single elimination 9 ball banks mini Friday night for the early birds and locals. We haven't cleared it with the room owner, just in the planning stages. It would give me more incentive to get there early...

Awesome. I plan to arrive Thursday night.

Bill, this is John Crabb one of the tournament directors. I was the guy who talked to you before Dustin. Anyway we have several members who will be getting there early that fancy themselves as bankers like Col. Billie and a couple of them city slickers from up north....I was wondering if you would be interested in having a open to anybody, 30.00 entry, 9 ball banks, single elimination tournament Friday night as a way for our members to play some with the locals? Thought it would be a fun warm up before Saturday. Let me know what you think. Thanks! John

You guys have done a fantastic job taking 100% care of every facet of this -- once again I am blown away by our onepocket.org membership!!

A couple small thoughts regarding the Grady rule -- kicking in if a match runs more than 2 hours -- and I apologize if I missed how you were dealing with this below or elsewhere.

I am in favor of you making the Grady rule work for you here, but as I understand it, the Grady rule is intended to be in place at the start of a game. In other words, if 2 hours rolls around in a slow moving match and a 12 ball wedge has gathered in one of the far corners, the Grady rule was never intended to suddenly spot 8 balls in a line up, mid-game! My point being, 2 hours may already be too late. Because don't you agree you have to hold the Grady rule until the start of the next game, or at least at a point in the game where there are not more than 4 balls behind the headstring, so the transition to the rule does not mess up a game in progress? Maybe someone has already thought of a work around for this...

The other thing is, once one or more matches run long, then aren't all the immediately following matches starting out behind schedule? And wouldn't it behoove to start those matches with the Grady rule already in effect? Rather than wait two hours in a situation where play is already behind from the get go, because of prior matches that ran over?

Just food for thought -- better to have a plan in place ahead of time, so everyone knows what to expect! Who knows, maybe with this 16 players everything will go like clockwork anyway, making all of this a moot point :D

I will try to fly down for the weekend to visit and take pics myself.

Mini tournaments and “Shake game”

Mini tournaments and “Shake game”

Two or 3 times a week we play a partners game, drawing pills for partners. We start either at $25 and go up $5 every game, or $50 and go up $10 every game. To accommodate some, spots might be in order for the weaker players team, but with this field, probably not. This might be a good way to start the weekend. Also y’all can have early tournaments that might be open to all, locals included.
Billy Miller is very familiar with SRC. Notables that know this room, Cliff, Shannon, Nick Vita grew up here, Jason Evans also, and Kenny Loftis is a force! But Sir Charles “ROSEY” Rosenblatt was the school master!
Table #1 is reserved for the SHAKE GAME, so we don’t have ONE POCKET GUY playing for $10/game all night,
Y’all come!

Steve of course we have a plan:heh I will also make a short video at some point... We could call it the modified 4 ball rule if you like instead of the Grady. It was never intended to use the rule in a match at all if possible... Lowering the losers to 2 should also prevent using the rule and very much speed up the tournament.. We aren't trying to prevent 3 hour matches, we are trying to prevent 4+ hr matches which played in a row kill a tournament. So... When each match is started the time will be written down etc. and a sticky with the time posted somewhere by them..At the 2 hr mark the table will be notified. At that point each player will have one turn at the table after being notified. If notified during the players current turn that doesn't count. After those two turns are completed, then... you can't have 4 balls or more in the kitchen. So if you have a 7 ball wedge going, 4 of them closest to the rail will spot:lol Any additional games starting after the 2 hr mark will have the rule in place from the start. I think one thing that is desirable about the rule is it should teach players not to blindly lag balls up table. Should make for some interesting chess matches and allow a 4 game finals as it should be. And yes, if a bracket is running way behind we could as a last resort implement the rule at the start of the next match in that bracket.

Todd told me about the Shake game...lol I'm sure you might find a few of us suckers who might play with you all. The 9 ball banks is kinda an after thought. Very possible we could be using a bunch of the tables with challenge matches so it might not work. Thanks

Bill, starting at $50 and raising $10 each game could get pricey if y'all play 8-10 games..

If you can bring a bottle, no WONDER Bille likes your room so much..:D

Alternate List

Alternate List

Wow, that filled up in a few days! Next one you might could have a bigger field. I was trying to decide whether to drive up, but wham, it filled lickety split..:) Y'all will have a great event.

~Doc

Please put me on the waiting list if anyone backs out.
I might drive down with ChicagoMike just to get in action.

We are going to have a alternate list Doc, if you are first on the list you will get a spot when/if someone drops out. Stuff happens...I for one would like to meet you. :)

Unfortunately, LSJohn has had to drop out. He's not 100% sure and would like to see his spot go to a member who can plan on being there.....

We'll just compile an alternate list in order interest is expressed.

(On a side note, Mr. Rowsey has said he'll hop in and play if something comes up/late cancellation at the time of tourney - otherwise, he'd just assume be a host.)

ALTERNATE LIST:

1. gulfportdoc
2. ChicagoFats

Doc, take a look at your schedule pal.
;)
