We've been talking about this at the pool room for a while and I've never seen it brought up.

We think we know the answer but we're not positive and if we are correct it's almost sick how long he's been punishing everyone.

Anyway:

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME EFREN...DIDN'T...WIN A ONE POCKET TOURNAMENT HE WAS IN ???

Steve, according to the records on this website, Efren came in 2nd to Cecil Tugwell at the 1990 Hard Times One-Pocket Classic (Bellflower, CA). I feel certain there are others. But it would be fascinating to see what his winning percentage is in one-hole tournaments. It's probably in the 90 percents. Whatever the percentage, it's a record that will be tough to beat! Sooner or later, though, some young virtuoso will come along to better Efren's stats. Look how long it took to break Babe Ruth's record! Hey, maybe Shane will take up one-pocket.;)

I guess that would be a start but we know Cornbread beat him in 1992 & 93 or 1993 & 94 at a (Texas Express/Midwest Tour?) tournament at Bogarts Billiards in Michigan.

So with that its been 13 / 14 years!!!

We just can't think of one since.

The '98 Legends of One Pocket is the last one that I know of. Shannon Daulton won it and I think he and Buddy Hall were the ones who beat Efren.

I have to agree with 1998 Legends of One Pocket, unless there is a non-Accu-Stats tourney, like any recent Hardtimes tourneys, or some minor ones here or there that I haven't heard about. I can't imagine Good O'l E. Reyes losing if he continues playing like he has in the last three Derby City Classics where he won. I swear I thought Billy Incardona would suffer a myocardial infarction if he continued to watch Reyes play. I'm glad the race was just to 3. Anything beyond that...well, there may have been casualties.

I saw a recent(less than 5 years old) vid of efren losing to busty at a hard times 1 pocket tourney. Not exactly sure of the date but I saw it in the last 6 months.

I have an amateur recording of Reyes losing to Ismael (Morro) Paez, in the 2002 Shooter's Open One Pocket. It's just a match so I don't know if he also lost the tourney or not. Lots of missed shots.

Any update on this thread?

The Hard Times tournament Shag_Fu is referring to is from 1999. Efren loses the hot seat match to Bustamante. The commentator states that Efren will face Pagulayan on the losers side to determine who will play Bustamante in the final. Its funny the way the commentator says "it doesn't matter who wins they all came in the same car." Does anyone know which of these 3 Filipinos ended up winning this event? I looked at all 3 of their bios and could not find this one tournament on anyone's credit.

What about Working_Class_Hero's post about the 2002 Shooters Open One pocket? Anyone know who ended up winning that?

Efren Lost the Match, but the Tourney?

I have no idea about the eventual winner of the 2002 Shooters Open. It is not listed in the record books on this site, and I have no idea where it was held. I would guess that it is on the West Coast since Paez is in it, but that's as far as it goes.

I would like to add that I stayed up late on the last night of the 1 Pocket Ghost challenge to see Gabe Owen Score a 60. It was impressive. That man got out from places that I could not believe. I think that he deserved to win against Reyes if he played like that in his match. He has improved a long way since the Joyner match in like 2005 or something. I totally missed out on any of the DCC one pocket because my Girlfriend had emergency surgery and I needed to be with her.
