Alfie, this post says a lot, and for those that weren't convinced that the fat man should be inducted (after reading this) should be now. I feel that it would be an injustice in many ways if Fats doesn't get inducted. I also feel that the biggest injustice would fall onto the Hall for not having him as one of the inductees, Fats was a great humanitarian, a great character, a great ambassador of our game, an excellent player and gambler, and the games largest legend without a doubt. For this most contraversial thread. The reason I see no end in sight is precisely the reason the One Pocket Hall of Fame should welcome Fats with open arms. What organization in the game of pocket billiards would not be honored to include this most popular character of the pool hustling era that ever lived. Long after all of us posting are gone and forgotten, people will still be talking about him. Look at us. Fatty has been gone seventeen years and there is no hotter topic.
"Alfie. Fats played all games good...even three cushion," Eddie Taylor.
So come on everyone: Stop shewing the Fat. Those of you who saw or heard about him, those posting their opinions just to be included in the "Fats" circle and those of us fortunate enough to call him friend. His bragging, which seems to be peoples only complaint against him, didn't hurt anyone and it helped the revive and promote the sport we are now enjoying. RIP Fatty.
Keep it respectful. Alfie
I didn't know Fats as well as you, or for that matter as well as many, however, I did know him well enough to be invited to his home, sit down with him and his wife over dinner as he was telling his tales of the road stories, and more. Fats use to call me "Cardone" With the emphasis on the "done" end of the name (long o of course) but I knew Fats liked me because I played so well and was dating a beauty from Carbondale. The girl I was dating knew Fats well and he adored her (as he adored many women) but he especially liked her. Fats whenever we saw one another would always ask me if I was still seeing her and we would talk a little. I felt special to be able to sit and talk with fatty, just being seen with him was special to me. Fats to me was a really cool guy who made people laugh, and where ever he was there was a crowd. Fats was the Michael Jordan of pool, and I'm proud to have known him well enough to have spent some time with him and also gamble with him. He was "triple smart" and a character that will never be forgotten. I know that Fats will be inducted into the One Pocket Hall Of Fame, there's no way that we can dog it that bad and not induct him.:frus
