"So by step, 1st. stand back to get the visual, 2nd. keep visual, 3rd. approach and lay cue across rail lined up on the shot, 4th. step into the shot."

Sounds like a plan. However, ... I don't go way back just about cue's length
that way I can slide it into alignment as I do the rest of the steps.

"If it works, I'll make him up an index card listing the steps. "

Don't forget the "Arthur Murray Dance Studio" footy prints :lol, :lol.

Went to practice some more today, one of the regulars walked by and asked
why I was waving my elbow around while I was stroking. DHOOO, head-slap!!!
Started keeping my elbow and arm close to the body and danged if the cue ball
wasn't right where I wanted it to.. Worked on it for another 2 hours
and that bit of the OB's going off to the Right became less an less an less.
Now I need to keep that thought in the back of my mind till it becomes more
automatic. I had been unintentionally trying to counter-act the "Chicken-wing"
by compensating. Well, Tourney tomorrow 8-ball. Will be working on it before
and most likely during it. Wish someone had mentioned it sooner.

hank

Ps. Banks were going in when I needed them for the most part, when I
missed I'd set them back up till I'd make the shot 5 times. Then move on.

If the cue stick is close to / lightly touching your chest
It might give you a reference and help the “ chicken wing”

Larry, tried, I don't flex like that plus it would require a whole new stance ta-boot.

Practiced with a few racks of rotation and I have the "check arm box" as last
item before I turn the brain off (it's a lousy pool player anyway), and settle in
for the shot. It was working pretty good. Outta 10 players I was the 4th best.
Still have work to do.

Thanks for the reply. Keep those thoughts and suggestions comin' folks.
They are all appreciated.

Been practicing, and playing the wee-bitty tourneys.
I've not really been saying much as I had a Stent placed in one of my arteries
the day after my last post. They kept me overnight and I'm doing better then I
was before then. Just had to take it easy for about 7-10 days while the body
adapts to the new equipment.
I didn't avoid the tourneys, they are more fun then stress to me. There are only
a few players there that have any kind of game. One is a Native American woman
that used to play the tourneys at Gillie's in Houston awhile ago. She and I always
have a good match-up. Just look each other in the eye, a nod that the game's on
and it's what it's all about.

Anyway, practice, practice, practice ...

A very merry belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Hank, and to all the bank posters on what has turned out to be the most prolific bank thread of all time. Thanks, for your threadHank, and all for making this thread a reality.

Lately I have been banking cross corner and cross side banks in an upright position instead of my chin on the cue, probably to lazy to bend over! I do it this way with a cb and a ob only while waiting for the set balls to heat up by the heater. 22 degrees last night! But it seems to be working quite well and making banks pretty easily. Seems like I get an over all view of the angles better, better visual. I reckon Minnesota Fats with his upright stance does have something going on! Whitey

Belated Christmas wishes and hopes for a decent New Year right back at-ya.

Reckon it's kinda taken on a bit of a life of it's own which is good. But the help and
helpful hints and suggestions have been a huge help to me and probably some others,
but if they don't say then we'll never know.

Have some "older" folks that shoot in our bity tourneys and most don't get way down
on the cue for their shots. Some just can't others and I've talked with them, say they get
a better look at the shot from "up there". Me I sorta split the difference, but more down
then up.

Been enjoying your creative Bank shots and been trying most of'em. Folks wander by and
mumble then ask me how did I do that during matches ... I just tell'em " it looked like it would
so I did it."

Lately I seem to see the line better in a more upright stance, from peripheral awareness of the cue, through the line of aim to the target. Perhaps it's my lack of depth perception that makes it easier from more upright. But it does seem to me that most of the great players from the past had a more upright stance, i.e. players from Johnston City, for example. The "chin on the cue" is a comparatively recent stance; and most women pros use it too.

For steeper cuts and also shorter bank shots, I think I see better more upright. But longer shots I believe getting the chin down is better -- too bad as I get older that isn;t comfortable anymore lol.

PS regarding Johnston City -- the younger players there like Cole Dickson, Jimmy Reid, etc, probably did get down.

Sometimes it's a matter of perspective, sometimes comfort, grudgingly older eyes.
For me, the last 2.

Hank, keep that heart pumping. Pool is good exercise, Doctors may not know this with the stigma associated with cigarettes, second hand smoke, gambling, drinking. Keep on playing - it's good for you!!! Take care! Whitey

That's what I told her. Might be stop-n-go, but I'm moving around for hours
at a time and there can be times when the mental stress increases the heart
rate as well She just shook her head and mumbled in Tagalog. (chuckle).

Hi Hank, I am back from the rule committee which consumed my time, and the reason I have not been posting.
How are you getting along, I hope better. How's the ticker?
As for me, my local winter session 8-ball league of 18 weeks has just ended. I ended up #1 player shooting at 90% win/loss record. Made a few banks, I guess.
But my eye prescription was getting to strong with glasses, and my new glasses I was having a horrible time, so I found a new optometrist and she is a wonderful caring person that got me fitted with contacts. I can now see the balls much better, and this is the reason I shot better.

I have been going through blood pressure issues, which is under control, and kidney issues. But, I hope you are back playing pool, it is great exercise, I do not know just how bad of shape I'd be in if it was not for pool. Exercising is helping me.
Take Care, Whitey

It's good to have ya back. Get the "Rules" all sorted out?

Sounds like you had some fun as well as making a few Banks. I've been on a good shooting streak lately won
5 of the last 8 tourneys (8 & 9 ball), got a second and wasn't there for the other 2. Kinda like finding a new gear.
Reckon I've been making a bank here an there as well. ;) . I tried contacts a long time ago didn't work for me
so I'm stuck wearin' windows on my nose. Feelin' good when I make my banks, just still workin' on more then 1.
Time will be my friend.

Hank, yes, the rules are all sorted out, but Steve still has final writings and decisions to be made.

But that is great news that you are back playing again. Your fan base will be more than glad to hear you are doing well, 5 out of 8, wow, now that is impressive. That will bring joy to the heart. What the heck, you are going to be instructing us, from now on!

I haven't played in a local in town tournament in quite a few years. We have a tournament on Wed. Fri. Sat. and Sunday nights. League play Mon. Tues. Thurs. I will not play again until next Monday night winter league. To many out door activities during the other months to play pool. Pool slows down in the good weather months.

I did so many banks videos, it seems I might be running out, but hopefully I can come with some more.

I was at a fellow pool friends house the other day, and I went to show him some twist banks, and I could not get the balls to even start to twist. His wife cleans the balls, so I just wonder if this caused the balls not to grab the spin. I very seldom clean my pool balls. If this makes a difference then I am feeling kind of bad in doing all those twist bank videos. I'll clean my pool balls and see how I can twist them.
Good to hear from you! Whitey
