John vs. Ray 7 - wwyd?

I'd have to see it on the table, but I think the half-ball angle off the 7 (with left side) is sitting right to land full on the 2. I do like one of the shots on the 10 better, but if I'm not feeling good about the make percentages, I'll try the safe.

    WWYD-in this tough spot.

At nine ball it comes up from time to time and it's the only shot for those of us who don't have those little cheater sticks. ;)

    WWYD-in this tough spot.

Bill posted a video. Hit the cue ball about 45 degrees into the long rail with the butt passing over the spot, more or less. As much draw and right as you can get. Softly. It's a good technique to know when you have to make an angle that isn't there. If there is a trick, I suppose it is the...

    5 rack game?

3 ball, bump the 7 as little as possible. Draw from the 9 to bump the 10 into playability. 2 is next followed by the 4 or 6.

    runnels vs. yee shot question

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt when he gets a kiss that full. Is he that bad a banker?

    runnels vs. yee shot question

I agree with this. He took none of possible precautions for avoiding the kiss. Either he had a total brain freeze or he was playing the kiss. I've never tried it from that far away from the foot cushion.

    Donn vs. John 12 wwyd?

I'd have to see the 13-bank on the table to be sure of the carom angle to the 1 ball. If it was on the left side or full on the 1, I'd play it. It looks like I'm going to hit a little on the right side of the 1 ball, so I would try left on the cue ball to get a fuller hit on the 1. For the...

Don Lim, and Jimmy Duval RIP

I knew Don very slightly from the 1970s or so and then better the last few years when we played in the same 14.1 league. He did have some amazing stories including about Leon Yonders who was a behind-the-back and a no-rail runout specialist. Don was still tinkering with his game the last time I...

    5 rack game?

You're right. I just checked the original announcement. I must have been thinking about the side action. If a scratch is allowed on the break with a -1 score, the rules need to say whether a ball will be spotted at the end of the rack to allow a total of 15 in the rack.

    5 rack game?

Hopkins showed me this break at the DCC one year. He used to offer a proposition of five tries to run all 15. I think he did it on the fourth try when he was showing me. I bet with Varner on the five-rack proposition about 1995(?). He also played without ball in hand but his standard break was...

Which side of the five ball will the six pass on?

    joyner cooney wwyd>

Bill was right, I had the 13 about half a ball too close to the rail. Here is the shot as closely as I could match lll's image. And here is an overhead using exactly that layout of the shot I liked: I thought that the cue ball would move towards the top but it doesn't hit the two ball on...

Since you have a table, it would be interesting to try Bill's shot. I'm thinking much of the time you will send the 15 towards Cooney's pocket.

The way I see the shot, if you make the 1 ball at pocket speed you either don't hit the 13 or you move it only a little. If you crank up the speed, you will scratch. The one ball looks to be a ball and a half from the far cushion. The 13 is not quite two balls from the side rail and this side of...
