I think they are a little careful about the spouse pass -- I don't think it is just an extra free pass that can be given to whoever...

I think you are right, no domestic partners allowed in Kentucky!

My friend is taking his 11 year old son, who is taking a big interest in pool now. Already got him playing a little one pocket. ;)

Will he be able to use the spousal pass for his son? If not, I suppose he should buy an entry for his son. Or is it 18+ to play?

I am willing to be someone's son or for some of you...grandson, to get the free pass. :p

Under 18 is definitely fine to enter -- they may ask for some adult permission, or someone to take responsibility of the under 18 attendees, but there are always some good young players there -- Landon Shuffett, Billy Thorpe among others.

He would have to inquire about the spousal pass. But the boy can buy an entry as long as he's accompanied by an adult. This is from the DCC website:

FOR MORE INFORMATION: CALL DIAMOND BILLIARD PRODUCTS, INC. @ 812-288-7665 OR

www.DerbyCityClassic.com

Entries received the day of draw will incur an additional $25 charge.

Due to the Buy-In Option Format Prize Money pay out will be a minimum of 64 players or a maximum of 1/3 of the field.

The deadline for online registration will be Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 6:00pm EST

YEAH I agree. They won't give you 2 passes unless your spouse is with you at check-in. It's only fair.

don't take this the wrong way, and I don't want to argue, but how is it fair? if me and another guy both enter the 1P tourney....I'm married and he's not....how is if fair my wife gets in free and he can't bring a friend for free?

I realize they are there to make a living like us all, but what if someone can't afford to go but with the free ticket they could attend and see what it's all about? Maybe make a new fan.

anyway, the rules are the rules I guess! see you all there,

I guess if I have to explain. you just wouldn't understand anyway. But, It's not for someone to get 2 tickets for the price of one. It's a courtesy extended to players so that their spouse can watch her hubby play without having to pay for an additional ticket. In that case, the spouse usually only takes up a seat when their hubby is playing a match. It's a courtesy they don't have to give the players and if people abuse it, they could easily take away the courtesy! If you're too tight to spring for a ticket, I can't see how you are any benefit to the tournament! And I don't mean "you", I mean anyone trying to beat the gate! It's a tough proposition putting on a great pool event and seeing a profit from your efforts! People should be glad to support the event so that it can prosper and continue to expand and improve instead of trying to figure out ways of beating the tournament out of their admission. JMHO

No Sherm, I do understand. Maybe you need to see the other side. I'm not trying to get over on the DCC by giving away a ticket, I'm trying to get butts in the seats which is what every promoter would want, right? especially someone trying to promote one pocket. A very tough sell to everyday spectators, but we love the game and want people to see what we see.

My first job ever was a barker for my dads carnival....during the first 2 set up days we went all over the little towns here in the north east and GAVE AWAY tickets. We went to bars, churches, super markets....everywhere. Every free ticket had "bring a friend free "opening day only" printed right on it. We kept these tickets when the customers turned them in. On average 90% of tickets given out came back. Do you think the people came in for free and spent no money? no way man! They spent more because they got a free ride walking in!

We all want pool to be great like it once was, but you gotta open up your mind. You see me trying to "steal" a ticket and soemone getting a freebee....I see one more person discovering pool.....who will hopefully be back next year with other people. Thats how we all got there right?

Gerry, OK, I agree with the concept, but in this case you were offering the ticket to someone who was already going, had the funds and has already said he would just enter the one pocket event and watch the rest. Your example of the carnival was a

good one, but, it was the owners of the carnival who were giving away the free admittance. I can see this! In fact I was at a tournament in NYC about 6 years ago at Grand Central Station. They had a very high gate charge (something like $30 or $40 a

session) I kinda balked at paying this since the session was already going on and I didn't really know how much longer the present session would last. The producers of the tournament had the local news stations coming out and the seats were pretty

empty. They sent people out into Grand Central Station inviting people to come in and watch for free. Even gave us VIP seating right up front as it was available. They didn't want the cameras panning around and people seeing a bunch of empty seats.

But having been involved in helping run some tournaments I know that the margin of profit is very slim. The DCC lost money big time the first couple of years in fact, but persevered and starting showing a small profit. I'd hate to see them start losing

money again and decided that they can't afford to keep the tourney going. Look at the U.S Open! Each year Barry has trouble paying all the players! Pool is not a big draw in this day and age. The people who enjoy the sport must man up and support it,

instead of trying to get around paying admission, or it will fade away. I think we both want the sport to grow, we just have a little different idea on what will help or hurt it. Enough said, Gerry, I know from your posts that you're a good guy and you're not

just trying to beat Diamond out of a few bucks. I just wanted to point out that they have the right to expect spectators to play or pay.
