As I'm sitting here waiting for my flight I thought I'd give my Derby report.

Saturday night dinner was great. The food and Onepocket friends were all great.

Sunday was a day I could only dream about. I played the best most consistent 1p of my life. I beat almost everyone I was in action with, thanks Disco Dave, Bernie, and Miller. Max Eberle quit me after two games breaking even.

I lost my first match to Warren Kiamco 3-1. I played very well but the trap I put Warren in wasn't tight enough and his QB control was near perfect.

After playing Miller till 4am I was a disaster all day Monday. My buy back match went hill hill. First game I was up 4 balls to 0 and gave the game away. Second game I was up 6-2 and gave it away. Third game I was up 7-1 shooting my winner. As I was looking at the 15 ball I swear it looked like it said 115. Holly crap 2.5 hours of sleep is bad bad news. Thank god I wasn't flying a plane. I dogged it bad and sold out a bunch. But my opponent gave it back. Fourth game I was up and dogged it but was given back to me. On the break my opponent sold out a back cut that I missed but left it close and the QB long. He got the ball out but I out move him and held it together for the win.

Today I played Niels Feijen and lost 3-0. I was consistently hooked or in bad positions. WOW these world champions control the QB so well it makes it very difficult to play. I did manage to came with a few great shots but never got the extra roll I needed.

Thanks to all the sponsors for supporting me and Onepocket.org

Jim

Sounds like you did a good job representing 1P.org, congratulations!

If we are serious about the 1P player advancing farther, we may have to impose a moratorium on members matching up with the Chosen One while he's still alive in the tournament. But that wouldn't be any fun.

Looks like 12squared, Hacker, and Bernie all advance into the 6th round; Bernie with no losses. I can't tell whether Tom W. and Lou F. are still alive or not. Way to go, guys.

It's funny. You'd think it would be easy to know what's going on when you're at the event. But there are so many centers of activity that one must simply look at the same computer graphic on a big screen-- just like we do here at home. There could be several interesting things going on at once, but you'd never know about them...:(

BTW, as hot as he's been lately, I'm surprised to see that Danny Smith is out of it already. Chohan has a loss as well.

I'm at the airport now unfortunately. But I must say... Dustin and I sweated the Hacker playing some 100 a game until about 4 am the other day against a really strong player. Between the two of them it was like a moving clinic, and damn can the hacker run balls. Hacker got the cheese FYI.

Regarding Danny Smith's exit: I wonder if his typical gambling strategies are capable of being scaled down into a race to three format with good results?

Tom Wirth was still winner but graciously gave the match to the guy he beat because he had a plane to catch. Shame because man he plays strong (read:kicked my ass) and could go far again.

Regarding Danny Smith... I'm sure his exit is related to his being up all night in the action room (saw this first hand). I have to say that as good as he seems to be getting, his attitude and general persona was disappointing. Both in the action room and in a tournament match, he was acting like a punk kid. Barking and complaining etc. he's young though so I'm sure he'll chill over time lol. Just my us.02 of course.

SB and Mitch (re Danny Smith)-- Yeah some guys shine at tournament play, whereas some others do better gambling. I don't know about Smith. I do know, e.g., that Scott Frost hates the tournament format, and I think that's a big reason why he traditionally hasn't done as well in tournaments as one would think he would.

Personally I'd like to see Frost and J. Hall do well in this one...

Bernie is still in -- locked into a tight battle with Warren Kiamco now. Score is 1-1 in games and 6-5 Bernie in balls.

WWYD needing three of these four balls with your pocket near right?

I'm cutting the three with left english and bringing the cue ball two rails for shape on the twelve. On these tables the pockets are very forgiving and I might just get out without having to bank a single ball. It looks a little like the out I had to win my last match, but I needed four and got them.

Congratulations to Bernie for getting into the 7th round, and Hacker for getting into the 6th. Several of our guys did real well. Too bad Tom W. had to leave. He'd probably have been up there too.

I thought that Jerry Matchin and 12squared had especially nice events.

Cheers~

Great job to everyone there and it was nice to meet some of you and put a face to a username :)

I am going to plan for it better next year and actually get a room at the casino so I can stay later and get into some of the after hours action that a lot of you participated in. Also save myself form 4 hours of drive time every day.

Doc. Seeing that I won my first three matches, I would have been guaranteed at least 5th round.

The first game of my last match the guy had me 4 balls to minus four, and he had another four or five balls within a diamond of his pocket. Because of all the intentional fouls I had to take, I had to make 18 balls in that first game. That kind of sent a clear message to him.

He is a stone cold champion :)

He hangs out here in Florence, KY at Kickshots and plays at Michaels in Cincinnati.

I dont know if they ended up playing or not but he was supposed to play Chohan and give him 9-8 playing banks and then receive 9-8 playing one pocket. I would have liked to sweat that one..

After beating one of his buddies, Shannon wanted to rob me at Michael's. He plays real well.
