Just got off the horn and these 2 will be playing this Saturday, 8 ahead for $6000, Scott will be giving Cliff 9-8 on his break. It will be taking place at The Billiard Club in Mobile Alabama. Will be doing the live broadcast as long as I can swing it money wise, should be a good match to sweat. www.ontherailtv.com :)

Wow, that's great news Lenny. This should be a heck of a match, and I hope that you're able to stream it for all of us rail birds.

8 ahead can easily become a real yawner, (unless you just love to sweat 1P)...Can't they just play a long race, like to 15 or 20. (or more)... If I were one of the horse's...I would think that would determine who was the best player that day..Instead of who can last the longest....Whatever happened to "gambling" ?

I am confirmed and my flight is booked, packing my bags right now and leaving in 5 hours. I appreciate the guys supporting OTR on this trip, it helps for sure. Well back to packing and making sure everything is in order, I have major OCD and will forget to breathe.

This is great news for us here on the Dixie Riviera. I'll definitely be going over there tomorrow to check it out. I hope they get started by early afternoon! I imagine Lenny flew down with Scott. It's wonderful that he'll be live streaming the contest. I didn't even know that The Billiard Club had internet!

IMO Frost is the slight favorite. Cliff can move as well or better than Frost, but no one can out-shoot Frost. They both have staying power, although Cliff is much older. His right shoulder is always a consideration. I hope it doesn't act up on him.

I don't know who's in with Frost, but I assume that, if the first set goes quickly (6-10 hours), then they'd likely play another.

Cliff has more or less set up living in Mobile for the past couple of months. I'm sure Bear is backing him (and also Jerry Brock). Mobile has become action central in the past few months. Gabe Owen & Joyner locked horns over at Breakers recently.

Dick, if you have Lenny's cell (I lost it), P.M. me, will you? I'd like to call him to check out the times, etc.

I agree with you Doc about Frost being a slight favorite, but he was playing in his home room on the last stream where we got to watch him run so many balls. Cliff's shoulder didn't seem to be acting up the last couple times I watched him play in Galveston and The Derby. Should be a great match.

Doc,

I may run down if I can get out of a couple of DeeWoman assignments by early afternoon. I'll call if I do.

If not, enjoy it for me.

I'm guessing the tables are playing wet this time of year in Mobile. I think that would disadvantage Scott coming from AZ, especially since Cliff has been there playing for a few months and also spent years in Houston.

Today's Weather for Mobile, AL
82°F
Current: Mostly Cloudy
Wind: SE at 14 mph
Humidity: 69%

Well I am here in Mobile, a long trip and its been rough to say the least but we finally are in a hotel but no rental car yet, cant find one! So Scott and Cliff are set to play at 5pm tomorrow (Saturday). I tested the internet and its good so it should be a good show, setting up in there is tight so it might be a side angle but for free who can complain but someone will. Thanks to those who are showing support and helping OTR on the trip.

Lenny,

Tell Scott good luck for me. Any info yet, on a time limit, or will it be a "last man standing" deal, (like Ronn was)
I hope he has enough time to get acclimated. Skin made a very good point about the humidity possibly being a factor.
As "boingy" as Diamond rails are anyway...I can't imagine how they would play wet. Glad I never had to learn.

Rod, have you gotten to play on them on a typical Houston (sauna) day yet ?

Looking forward to catching the stream.

Nice Dry Duck :) .... ( PS..Weather for Phx., Sat. May 8...Hi 95..Lo 70... humidity 9%.)

I am in the hotel right now about to crash, Jimmy and Scott are sawing wood. See ya on the stream and hope it all goes well. I know the table does play much different for sure, reminds me of NY when its summer time, very humid. We can get out rematch after John and Grady play on the live feed, should be fun. :)

That's an excellent point, Skin. I was just about to make it myself...;) Y'all may not believe it, but it has been less humid here during the last day or two than it has been in weeks. 70% humidity with dewpoints in the 60's make it slightly less wet than usual. We normally get humidity in the 90's, and dewpoints in the 70's.

Nevertheless the conditions are WAY more wet than Scott is used to. The wetness shortens the banks considerably, and makes the pockets smaller. I'm guessing they'll use the table that has 4-1/4 or 4-3/8 inch pockets.

This is going to throw Scott at first, but with his talent, he'll adapt after 3-4 games. Cliff of course is well used to the humidity.

Doc
P.S. Dick, your PM box is full. Thank you for the phone numbers!

As far as I know, Houston has not been bit by the Diamond bug, yet. I think all Fox and Hounds have Diamonds, but F&H is more of a bar with pool tables than vice versa. Classics Billiards (RIP) had all Diamond tables. Legends in League City has some OS 8 foot Diamond tables.

Watched quite a bit of Big Truck's streaming of a tournament at The Green Room in Jackson, Ms and they had Cliff on there quite a bit, once playing 10 ball and a couple of times playing races to three in the one pocket tournament.

Looks like his shoulder is ok to me. They were playing on soft equipment but he seemed to be playing well. His demeanor at the table would make me crazy if I was betting on him. He almost appears to be stalling sometimes. In the match with Justin Cone, who is a very good player, he would make some remarkable shots, get position to break open the stack and then rush the shot and let Justin back in the game.

Looked like he was still going to win the set, but I didn't watch the end of it.

If anyone on here did watch it I would be interested in your opinion.

John,

I agree, I would describe his play as very erratic.

Watched the final. Cliff won the tournament from the losers side. He went hill/hill race to 5, with a young guy named Billy Young.
Billy appeared to be strictly a shot maker, (and a pretty good one) and Cliff looked like he was in that mode too, at times. Shot lots of high risk shots.

From what I watched, he's going to have to step it up a few notches, to hang with Frost.

If you want to catch some of it, its being replayed on Big Trucks channel all day I believe.. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/bigtruck

Something else to think about. I don't know what time the tournament in Jackson, MS was over, but now Cliff has to go to Mobile for the match with Frost. Has to be somewhat of a drive.

It's approx. a 3 hour drive from Jackson, Miss. to Mobile. They finished up late last night, so if the Frost/Joyner match doesn't start until 5 PM today, Cliff should be just fine. Now at least Cliff has a little pocket money, unless they stopped at the Coast casinos on the way back...

John & Papie......I also watched quite a bit of Cliff playing last night, and I agree with you guys - but even more so...for his level of player, I thought he played not very well, and not very smart - it's surprising that he was still able to win the tournament....he's lucky he was playing some young, relatively inexperienced, One Pocket players in the last few rounds....if he was playing, let's say, Sylver or Rafael in one of those semi or final rounds last night, I belive Cliff would have went down.....And Papie, like you said - if he plays like that against Scott, and if Scott plays like he did against Ronn the other day - Scott will brutalize him.

- Ghost

PS, The Cliff that I watched play 15 years ago, could have given last nights Cliff about 10-8
