The super senior could be kept at a 3 day format and the seniors could show up 1 day earlier for a 4 day format. Even if 24 players showed up for both events by doing it this way the seniors would have a little more time between matches and would finish a little earlier the final day. Pretty much nothing would change for the super seniors. ...
Good suggestions, Wayne.

I only see one problem:

For me to win both tournaments, I'll have to play 10 races to 4 in 4 days, then if I get unlucky (guys like Incardona, Hall, Parica and Varner always get the rolls) and lose the first matches in the finals, I'll have to play two more races to three.

I'll have to bring a whole case of Geritol. :)

Ok sports fans,

Super Senior Classic ll could be in the works.... According to Mr. John Rizzo, and he wants to start Senior Classic I (65/69 year olds) at the same time.... John is thinking spring, like mid April next year.

He's talking $2000./$2000./$1000. Added. $200.00 entry. 100% payout, with a minimum of 16 players per division, maximum of 24. No juice outta the players money, or the Calcutta money.
The $1000.00 is the prize for the overall Champion between the two divisions.
Same format, same rules, except it's 4 days instead of 3 and both divisions are playing more matches on opening day (Thursday) in order to finish on Sunday.

John is going out on a limb to do this fellows, as he has no commitment as yet from sponsors, but insists that if necessary he will put up $2000.00 himself. Hopefully there will be some sponsors jump on board and John will be off the hook. Just wanted to add this bit of info to let you guys know that John is one of the good guys, Old School Reigns!

I'm posting this very early in order to get feedback from the membership. I'm pumped about it myself, but I would like to hear from others here about the timing ( April ) and also about the possible snags and hang-ups that we might encounter.

I know it's way to early to ask for a show of hands, but I'm doing it anyway, I'd like to be able to show David Richardson and John Rizzo how many of you are interested in coming to Houston next year for a 4 day two division tournament.

If you're between the ages of 65 and 69 anytime in the calendar year 2016, you're eligible for the 1st Senior Classic. Over 70, you can play in both events if you are so inclined.

Who wants to play some OnePocket?

Put me down....Haven't played in Houston since Jan. 1991. Jeremy wanted weight in rotation, I didn't know one hole back then, we never matched up, and Red was still kickin' it and helping Jeremy during that time.

Which division? Seniors? Or SS's? Or both if you're old enough?

P.S. Please check your PM box

Maybe as late as May sir, but I'm thinking no later than that due to heat restrictions. The building is old, poorly insulated, with lots of glass frontage, and with 10,000+ sq. ft. to keep cool, well, let's just say it struggles with a small crowd present in July. Put a large crowd in there in June or July and it's gonna be miserable. We definitely want you there, so try to get fired up in a shorter time, please.....

Ok sir...I din't know about the air conditioning issues at the poolroom <a href='http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/skype-emoticons.html' title='Skype Emoticons'><img src='http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/smileys/free-indifferent-smileys-851.gif' alt='Skype Emoticons' border='0'></a>

The May events in Vegas at the Rivera in the past are no longer, but the BCA events have sr and super srs that are now at the Rio in the middle of summer and I've heard many don't like it then, too hot, and summer time is for family.

MAY....This is the only really good natural gap, because allot of leagues all over the country, have many SSI's & II's. Also, they have playoffs and tune up annual events in April before the summer Nationals with many seniors in those.

Personally, I'd pick the VERY first weekend in May or LAST weekend in April, before it gets hot, that way we'd all would enjoy the southern heat before it hits.

Cary, I will put you on the interest list and you will be guaranteed a spot in the limited field ( first 24 to enter & pay entry fee) however at this early date they are not accepting any paid entries, but as soon as the dates are set we will notify everyone on the interest list.

Please list your full name and I will add you to the list.

Looking forward to meeting you in April.
Jeff

Cameras

Cameras

John Rizzo is already preparing for April. I stopped by Bogies yesterday to play for a couple of hours, (played 5 hours) and John was having cameras installed above tables 2,3,& 4 for the live stream next year. If you draw table 2 in a match, be prepared to hang a few!!! It's tight, 4" pockets.

Table 3 was used for the stream in the 1st SS Classic and although the pockets are shimmed, it and table 6 are the most generous of the 8 tables available. The play on all of them is very acceptable, not perfect, but consistent.

I guess John's idea is to be able to show a larger variety of matches and also to have the option of showing some action matches after hours. Table 2 has seen some heavy hitter action ($20K) this year, and April will surly draw a crowd of the younger guns looking for action.

Anyway, when you draw tables 2,3, or 4 next year, SMILE, you'll be on candid camera!:D:eek::p

Tell me about it. I showed up at the event feeling way under the weather, but still looking forward to a few matches. So who do I draw for the first match? James Christopher-- on the streaming table. Oh well, the best I can say is that two of the games were close-- in a 4-0 drubbing.;) That James can flat-out play.

These are the best. Totally ad-hoc and everyone is excited about it, including me, and I'm neither super nor senior.

The one thing I see is that, do you suppose the stereotype is true the old crafty one pocket players play slower? And that therefore matches will take longer on average than tournament directors have come to expect in an open one pocket tournament?

Great news about the live streaming upgrade :) I'll be enjoying that!

They have allowed for that in fact -- just in case, lol. :D

However, you might be surprised -- because at least these guys know what they are going to shoot at pretty quickly, unlike some much younger players, lol!!

Surprisingly there was really no slow play at the SS event. All the guys played good one-pocket. No stiffs. I think that some of the older experienced guys tend to carry on safety battles longer than younger players might. Most younger players will sooner or later want to shoot at a flyer, just because they get bored of protracted safety battles. Yet guys who understand the game will play every shot strategically.

But otherwise, the games moved right along.

We had one match the entire tournament that was close to being put on the clock, (3 hour match time) I can't remember who the players were, but it was caused primarily by two up table games they played.

Incidentally our TD was only called upon twice to make a close call decision and both times it was the player shooting the shot that called for observation of the hit.

Most all the matches played out at a good timely pace.
