I shot this yesterday, playing with a friend. He asked if it was a legal shot,
I said I didn't know, but doubted it was.
I also said I know where I can get some varied (maybe) opinions.
So what do you think ? :)

This is not a legal shot according to BCA rule 8.2: A shot begins when the tip contacts the cue ball due to a forward stroke motion of the cue stick.

The "Official Rule and Records Book" is available at AZ Billiards for a couple of dollars.

If you were gambling with me and did that I wouldn't care in the least.

I think this is one of those "depends" things (not the kind some of our older members are familiar with :) sort of like when you forget to empty your pocket and a ball you shoot into it rolls back out onto the table because there are too many balls in the pocket, or maybe taking an intuitional by tapping the CB with the side of your ferrule.

Friendly game, no biggie, but in a "serious" game it would be a foul.

Yes. $10.00 a game it's all cool. $40 a game the rules and riles change (with me at least) :D:p

the way i see it. the player had a chance to call it on him long before he shot the shot, instead let it go. so in a non tournament it would be hard to call this a foul.

besides he would argue when he turns the cue stick around and hits the ball that end becomes the tip.

playing for cash doesnt mean you get paid and get to keep playing with him because you show him something in a rule book.

ah, really.

How many times have you let the udder guy shoot at your hole and then gone, "Oh. That's my hole! I thought you were playing a safety."
