I guess Im in the minority when I say this shot was not the best option. It is a shot that one should have in ones arsenal but here, no. Not when the score is, Villain 6 and Me 5.
My choice is to focus on breaking up the cluster on my side of the table. I would use top right and send the 9 ball 2 rails with medium speed focusing on opening up that cluster. Leaving the CB on the long rail on Efren's side between the 1st and 2cnd Diamond. Leaving nothing but a chancy long 2 railer which you might profit from if left a cross bank. I think Frank the Barber, in terms of cue ball placement, eluded to this shot in his post.
What Bustamante did was sell out a cross Bank to Efren to get to the hill and allowing him to park whitey on or inside that cluster of balls. A simple straight rail billiard shot that Efren excels at. Causing only difficulty for Bustamante.
Leaving whitey my way allows you to singularly focus on breaking that important cluster. And is not hard to leave the CB frozen to the long rail. Sending the CB here 3 rails looks nice but ends up passive with no problems for your opponent. Once that cluster is opened up your opponent has to worry about you getting to the long bank first
