That's an interesting idea. It might be too much of an impediment for some people though. There is so much going on at the Derby people don't want to miss out on anything already.Plus there is already the issue of people attending the dinner and match scheduling for those still in one (or more!) of the tournaments.

Holding it with the US Open One Pocket or another event might be a better choice. Too bad, it has been a great event within the event of DCC for almost 15 years now.

Buffalo's is the biggest event other than the DCC. We would be happy to host the event on the Wednesday before play starts. All the top players are at Buffalo's each year, as well as many of our members. Doing it Wednesday frees up everyone for the dinner and gives us all an added excuse to come to New Orleans. I would be happy to help you out in the planning.

That’s a great idea and very generous of you to help out
Do they have a room and the ability to cater it?

There are literally dozens of restaurants within 5 minutes that have a banquet room and the ability to cater. With the green light, I will begin to make a list. This is literally no problem. New Orleans is built for these kinds of parties.

I was thinking the same thing, Joe. Buff's has become action central, and the tournament itself would probably draw anyone in consideration for the HOF. There should be enough interested folks to attend a dinner in the area.

I don't know how many usually attend the HOF at DCC. 50, 75? It might be illuminating to take an unofficial survey from the N.O. area folks and others in order to determine how many might attend. That would probably be necessary anyway so as to estimate the size of the banquet room needed.

Both purposed alternative dates are back to back weeks in May, I would think the Vegas alternative would be cheaper and easier and draw way more players.

I donít know of any venue that has 600 bank players, 450 one pocket players besides the DCC. Besides the dinner, there are many who donít go to the dinner that go to the induction. 75-100 for dinner and another 50-100 for the induction. You would think since the hotel charges nearly triple the normal room rate for having a full house, the hotel would be more accommodating. I know this is true because one year JR Hendy, (should be inducted as someone who influenced and taught one pocket on the Best Coast for fifty years) and I stayed for the full ten grueling days for under $400. The hotel changed the loophole.
Most people wonít even go back to their room for fear of missing something so leaving the hotel? Put down the pipe.

The US Open has been very poorly attended in the last five years. 15 of the top 20 one pocket players in the world will be at Buffalo's.

Buffalos and the US Open are back to back weeks this year, at least that is the tentative dates on the latter.

Edit: after rereading ur post I get what you are saying, wasn't the main reason for the low turnout the turmoil with ownership/management?

Also while checking into rooms for DCC it suggests several surrounding areas if not staying at the casino, but as someone already chimed in with the few times I attended @ the Executive West I never left during either 5 or 7 day stay.
