12th (2011) U.S. Open One Pocket Championship Field Size and Dates Expanded

Due to extensive player interest, CueSports International (CSI) announces they are expanding the field size and dates for the 12th (2011) U.S. Open One Pocket Championship being held this May at the Riviera Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The expanded field size will now be a maximum of 64 players (up from the initially announced 48). The tournament is also now a 4 day event instead of a 3 day event, starting on Thursday, May 12th (instead of the initially announced Friday, May 13th).

The event is still scheduled to conclude Sunday evening, May 15th.

Due to the start date being moved ahead to the 12th, the Mandatory Player’s Meeting is now scheduled for 8 pm, Wednesday, May 11th.

The U.S. Open One Pocket Championship is being held the four days preceding the 3rd (2011) U.S. Open 10-Ball Championship and in conjunction with the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships.

For more information about the U.S. Open One Pocket Championship and the U.S. Open 10-Ball Championship visit www.playcsipool.com. For more information about the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships visit www.playbca.com.

Long time event host, the Riviera Hotel & Casino has lowered their room rates for the BCAPL 2011 nationals with a three tier pricing structure ($60 - $80 per night). To receive these great new rates (with no resort fee), you must book through the BCAPL online Riviera booking link or call the Riviera toll-free number (800) 634-6753 Group Code BCAPCPP.

Thats great news, One pocket is with out a doubt growing in popularity among existing pool players in America, I make that statement with 100% certainty, there is no doubt in my mind about that. I hope that more people become interested in pool in general. "Its a epidemic and their aint no cure" sure was a brilliant statement made by Strawberry back in the day.:)

US Open One Pocket

As Gulfport Doc stated, we have opened up the US Open One Pocket field to 64.

We are still waiting for many of the 'invited' players (those that came in 1st or 2nd in previous events) to let us know if they are going to play.

I strongly encourage any players that want to play to contact Holly in our office. We will be confirming entries after March 1st. (That is the deadline for the invited players to let us know).

Rivieria has some real good rates this year. And the TAR feed (PPV this year) will be FREE in the Riviera hotel rooms and select bars and restaurants.

Please do not wait until the last minute - we will be scheduling all of the matchs weeks before the actual event.

Call with quesitons: 702-719-7665.

Great news.

But why on God's good green Simonis covered earth would you hold a *mandatory* players meeting a night before the tournament starts? I have never attended a 1pocket players meeting where anything of any substance was discussed. Print 64 copies of the rules, hand them out to the players an hour before the first match, and they're good to go.

I suppose my next question is: how mandatory is mandatory? If a player does not attend said meeting, will they be disqualified?

I ask because I know (as does every soul here who has ever attended a pool tournament) as sure as I'm sitting here typing that Joe Pro Pool Player is going to be calling in to say they got a late start, or late flight, or their car broke down, or some other baloney, and will not get there until the day of the tournament -- Thursday. IOW, if you're not living in Vegas, why would you want to pay for another night at the hotel, and food, and whatever, just for a player's meeting?

Mark, why are you drawing matches weeks before the actual event? And if you're actually going to do that: will you be posting the draw somewhere weeks in advance?

Also, please see my post about the player's meeting -- didn't see beforehand you were posting in the thread.

A great event shaping up - and Dippy wants to play. If he sends in his paid entry, I assume it will be accepted, just as yours or mine would be. All the best one-pocket players assembled in Vegas, along with the inevitable stake horses, and Dippy! And this time, he won't have to fade all the action by himself. There will be Dippy fans aplenty, carrying cash.

In my crystal ball I see someone renting another meeting room, putting in three or four Diamond tables and a lot of bleacher seating, with a booth at the door where one can pay an admission fee of maybe $10. There will be $12 hamburgers and $5 beer and a gaming table where one can wager with the house, on AB Middler's line. PPV streaming by all the streamers.

This could be a landmark gathering in our sport, getting equal billing in history with the orgies at Johnson City. (This is my favorite emoticon. He looks like a 9 ball player who has just sneezed in his snuggies.)

Most of you know I have been caught up with family issues -- so I am just getting back into the swing of things. One of the things I have neglected (besides entire Derby City coverage -- I'll get to that soon), is the announcement that Mark Griffin has donated one tournament entry spot to OnePocket.org, as a benefit toward the One Pocket Hall of Fame expenses. This is very generous -- a $340 value. We here at OnePocket.org have to decide (soon) how to maximize the value of this donation.

What should we do?

Auction it, with proceeds going to the benefit?
Raffle it?
Have a tournament somehow, with entry fees collected to benefit, and the winner gets the spot?
Somehow raise money for the benefit, but sponsor a specific player?

The basic idea being, we do need to maximize the value of the donation (hopefully well above the $340 value), but at the same time, we want to do something that we are proud of with the tournament spot. Please chime in with ideas.

And thank you, Mark!!

The expansion is nice in some ways and not so nice in other ways. The expansion means additional days that have to be taken off from work to attend. It also means additional expenses.

Lou's question about the "mandatory" player's meeting is valid. I've seen a lot of players purposefully miss player's meetings.

Personally, I would like to see a published list of the rules of the tournament emailed, mailed, or faxed to each participant in ADVANCE of the tournament.

I've mixed feelings about the advanced draw but if Mark's behind it, I'm sure his intentions are good. I do like the idea of knowing when the matches will be played. I guess my mixed feelings has to do with, and I may have missed reading it, but I was wondering if the advanced draw means that the draw will be seeded.

THIS PAST WEEKEND, Casper's Billiards which had a $5,000 added tournament couldn't attract 32 players much less 64 players. The hotel rooms at Extended Stay could be had for less than $40 a night at priceline.com and the fares going in to Houston were cheap as sin. (I drove but I'm just saying, it was an economical and If that tournament couldn't get the one pocket players out of their pool rooms, I'm not sure that pushing for the 64 player field was a good idea, at least not at this stage of development.

Casper's tournament was based upon them having 32 players to add the $5,000 and posts were made that that was a done deal but as deals happen, this one, didn't. They added $2500 instead of the $5,000.

I know Mark doesn't play like that and his $10,000.00 added will be there regardless of the number of players.

I don't want to be a naysayer but after this weekend's adventure, I'm kind of depressed over the support that the one pocket player's showed at this weekend's tournament. And I don't believe the weather had a damn thing to do with the no shows. (The weather wasn't that bad.. trust me, I was there). Houston airport was wide open and you could travel by car but if you listened to some people, you might wonder how they even got the Super Bowl off the ground with all that "bad weather".

OK, now let's hear who's going?

$17 a ticket RAFFLE sounds great.. sign me up for two tickets.
20 tickets at $17 = $340 into the HOF expence fund.

Or 17 tickets at $20.. either way, I'll take two.. where is that paypal money again? :D

I never even considered going to the Casper's Tournament because I had just spent 10 days at DCC. Any other time of the year I probably would have gone.

Steve, the raffle sounds like the best solution. At $20. a ticket i would think you would collect more than $340.

Hi Joey,

I for one, intend to be there in some capacity.

I'm confident of at least 48 players and with a race to 4 that will still make a great 3 or 4 day tourney.

Hopefully I'll see you there.;)

Regards. Bernie.

I think $10,000 would be fair, matching the added money for a $20,000 added event would be awesome but lets not hold our breath. ;)

With Casper's right on the heels of Derby, and the ice storm running over everyone, it's lucky that that many great players even got there at all..... Alot of guys went to the Memphis tourney since it was closer by about 18 hours, and as much as I wanted to go play at Casper's I couldn't even get across Dallas with all the wrecks and ice in under 3 hours. Ridiculous.
I hope that there is an insane ammount of support for the event in May, although I don't see how it could be otherwise.
I'm going to be finding all the info I can on getting to the next events, although I heard yesterday that there will be one at Hardtimes in Sac beginning of April. I haven't been online much lately so have to find out stuff by phone...slow goings. lol
North Texas got slammed with the icestorm, but once you got a ways south I'm sure it improved, but most of your players would have had to come across 3 states of it. I'm sure that was what accounted for the lower numbers at Casper's. That and all the days of Derby tapping into the bank accounts...lol
It got me, I ain't gonna lie-
I'm just excited to see this coming together and launching as well as it is already, and I know the turnout for May is going to be amazing!
I just hope I can get in to see where I stack up lol
And hope alot of 1hole players show up in Dallas in April for the 10 ball event- it's shaping up to be a great spring for players already!:D
