This came up during our One Pocket tournament in Providence last Saturday. Player A to shoot, and they need both balls, player B needs one. This was the hill-hill game, in a first round match.

Lots of shots.
Aggressive?

Kick off the end rail with high right English to kill the cue ball and send the 8 off the side rail toward your pocket. Shoot harder than you think.

this not ideal but i think iwould take a scratch and leave him on the 8 and hope they dont line up for a perfect bank to his corner

Larry I'm one of those types that could screw up a rock fight ..so I could easily screw that shot up and knock 8 closer to opponents hole than mine

If you kick the shot with left spin you have a chance to not leave a bank.:)
You might make the 8 ball or you might scratch in the side.:p
Besides if I made the 8 ball the other way I'd probably miss the 7 ball, being so far away.:D

This is not a good position too be in to reay do anything.

What I would do is cut the 7 ball thin twords my pocket and if the cue ball and object ball line up at the same angle with the cue ball on the end rail.

He will have some problems. Even If the 7 ball is at a different angle the key is too hit the 7 ball thin.

And you might even make the eight ball with the cue ball and spot the 8 ball up.

But hitting the 7 ball thin and going down the end rail will put you in a better position.

And the other shots are too risky for me. I would not shoot them.

Or plat it real safe if you shoot the seven ball close too youre side pocket and bring the cue ball back to were you are were youre opponent has too shoot the 7 ball in the side and go down the end table you can then make the eight ball and both balls will be spotet.

But this shot is no bargin.

Larry, you're getting pretty good at this! That was pretty much the shot -- except it went in, and player A made the last ball for the win. Player B was Mike Dechaine, who doesn't know One Pocket that well but sure makes shots! I tweaked your drawing a little, Larry.

thanks steve.
too bad i weii shoot much better than i play:D
i was trying to get the q over to my side of the table to make his cross corner bank more difficult or force him to have to hit a multi rail bank if he was going to go for his pocket

This is the shot that I would shoot. I'd even have a chance of snookering him behind the 8, which would bring me great joy!

Of course you can't argue the make but that kick from that distance is not for me.

That corner point is very close. BUt if I would shoot it I think I woild jut role it up behind the 8 ball and take a scratch and lock him up too the 8 ball.

But the point scares me.
