I will give you most of the pool rooms that I hung out and played. I am only going to give you the pool rooms in Chicago because I dont want to take up all your time. I probable played in more pool rooms and hung oput in different pool rooms then any pool player in Chicago. Her we go North Center Rosco and Damen. Howard and Paulina Howard Bowling Alley Clark street ner Howard and Paulina. A greek owned the pool room. THe Campus Room. Allstar in Scokie Bob Cordums Liland and Kiedze Marys Golden Cue on Montrose. Frank Olivers on Manhiem. 20th Century Sherden and Willson. A little pool room on Shiefied and Irving. Belmont Bowling alley Pool room on Ashland near belmont. Little English House of Lords. Olimpic on Clark street. Pool room on wells street 4 by 8 tables. Pionner pool room. Bell Clark China Town 43 street 63 street Akins pool room that John Henry owned when I was young He wiil varivie I played their all the time and beat everyone. St pauls billiards Gary Indiana were Billy Williams Played. Hammond indiana Golden Eight ball Four Bees Town and Country Bowlling alley. Rose Mont and Melrose park. I dont remember if I played in this pool room or not were Bruno and race track Phil hung out. I played Wade Crain playing nine ball in his pool room out west the had 4 by 8 tables. Johnny Morese steered me thier to trap Wade Crain playing one pocket and he wouldnt play so I played him 9 ball. I didnt no who he was. But I won the money and Johnny Moriss couldnt belive that I beat him playing nineball.I played were Jesse and Pink pong hung out the had 4 by 8 tables it was a good action spot. And thier were many more pool room in Chicago I played and hung out. And hundreds of Bars. But I only played ON ONE TABLE. And at Freddys and Phils and Bobbys Club North Shore I never hardly played on my favorite Table. THatb was the 5 by ten table that nobody would play on. So as far as favorite tables go. I played all over on all tables. If I had a important game. I would find the toughest table in thier pool room and I would practice on the toughest table tell I got it down. And then I would play. THats how you take care of Buissness. BUt I played in all the pool rooms in CHicago and hug out for a while in most of them. And what I would do I would start out on Diversy and go west to all the bars with a pool table in it and look for ation. I would go west all the way to Cicero and ten come back on Belmont or another street. And look for suckers. And I did this for months taking different streets. BUt after a while I would go to all the action bars. And thier was lots of bar action in Chicago. It might have been the best bar action spot in the country. And when I went to California I would have BUTTER MILK take me to all the bar spots. I would allways look for a good steer man that new all the spots. Today its all about tournaments. And everyone knowes everyone and if the dont no you the waite tell the find out who you atre and when the get a line on you the might play. I hustled through all of Chicago. And I played all over the country too. I am glad I didnt play in tournaments because I wouldnt have made the money I made. And thats how most of those players all got thier reputation. IN Tournaments. Thier were very few good Hustlers.

hi

Artie ,

I too played in all those rooms and thats when pool hustling was more of an art than it is today and you needed to win to survive since most pool hustlers weren't employed , although going from poolroom to poolroom was hard work, but if you were smart and knew how to win it was a great life and something I actually miss !! I primarily worked my ass off going from poolrooms to bars to get that racetrack bankroll and thats how you learned to play on different tables , I always knew one thing they all had pockets and it didn't make any difference to me . Some players had favorite tables and were tough to beat till you figured out the table , but a lot of those one table players could really only play good at one place because they didn't travel much to play on other tables and when they did they got beat !! The days of real pool hustling are pretty rare because of the pool leagues and tournaments , if your a good player everyone knows and as far as the bar action thats really gone because the pool leagues fullfill the players need and they don't really need to gamble like before ! We lived in the great days of pool hustling . Times have changed and a lot of good players work a job also and I guess that gives the game a bit more class . You are right about you not playing in tournaments because if you did that back then you would have been starving for action and you might have had to get a job

The best thing about pool hustling was you could sleep all day or more or less work when you wanted too !! No time clock to punch .

Those were great exciting times !!

Your wright those were the days of our growing up and our youth. I wish I could relive those days. And even looking at the women was more exciting. Thier was a action inviorment in the air. And you are wright when you said people would gamble for excitment. And the bar leagues took all the action away. Because the are gitting thier nuts off playing in the bar leagues. But those were the good and fun years. And everything was more exciting. EMAGINE GOING AROUND TO POOL ROOMS AND BARS LOOKING FOR ACTION. And all you have to do is put your quarter up and you had action. No wonder Fats like pool and pool stories. But you were a winning player. You were a nicer guy then me and you wornt as ruthless with the suckers. You had more feelings and compassion. All I wanted was thier money. Thats how my mind worked at that time. And if you lost you were the sucker. You said it real good and to get a job you have to be qualified at doing something. And Pool was more fun and exciting. And the had all kinds of pool rooms and bars in Chicago. And the all had thier pool champion in ever bar. Do the have any bar spots for GRANPAS?

Junior was on my top ten most treacherous players of all-time. Played fair on the bar table, and was a notorious Jar hustler. I believe he got busted for it eventually.

I seen him at the Riveara Casino the had a big eight ball tournament. And I was thier with Ronnie. And Jr Swetman was thier. And I havant seen him in 35 years. And Junior went up to Ronnie and said to Ronnie remember me? I played you in a bar in Chicago. And I beat you. And Ronnie never looked at him he never acknowledged him. And he walked away from him like he was a nobody. I feelt sorry for Junior but after that I wasant going to sayanything. Because I was so shocked what just happened. And I seen him in a bar in Alabama were Frosty took me. And frosty new were all the bars were. I wonder Why? BUt thier was action in the bar. and those were the only two times I seen him. But it took a champion to beat him playing on the bar. He was a good bar player.

But I like each and everyone off you. As long as your all not together thats to much. If I ever come to the tournament again. I would love to have a picture taken. With all 3 of you guys in the picture. And you guys were good looking guys when you were younger. But your gambling days was a fun and intersting life. And you are all three leginons. And I am glade I didnt miss out in life knoweing each and everone of you. It takes three libraries to fill all you no about gambling. And If you want toadd stories it would never end. BEst of luck to all of you whatever you do with the rest of your life. And to show you that I am a good sport. I will take you to the best Italian Restaurant in Chicago. And You can even have a conole for desert. You 3 people made the world exciting. And you are realy the real Caracters. You are all number one on my list and thier is no 2 cd or 3d. I have a picture of Freddy at three years old with a bank pool tea shirt on and a two peace cue stick running away from from home going on the road and making a living banking his way cross country. The bid starts at one million dollares for his picture. His backer is F Lee Bailly and Freddy wont play cheap. He didnt need glasses then. And he would play banks 8 no count with any one older then 18. Freddy never lost a match. And thats how he became who he is today. Banking with the beard. And dont ever say I dont say anything about your bank game. You were the best white banker in the country at one time. But that doesnt help you much in Chicago back in your day. Have you ever talked about Cross Corner RED. If you did I probable before I got started wrighting on this site. He made his living shooting one bank cross corner. Freddy can give you the scoop on Cross Corner Red.

THier was a nother Italian Restaurant on clark street close to fulerton. That the Doger coach yous to go to Tommy Lasorta. But I dint care for it to much. BUt I loved Gen and Gorgettes. Im sure Phil and Freddy have some good ones. And its been a while since I have been in Chicago. And time changes everything.

Artie,Ronnie may have not spoke to him because he might have been a victim of what the Beard described him as being, and might have just got him! That would make pefect since to why he acted the way he did. He's on everyone that really knows him as on the top three list of the most flimflaming carny hustler of all time. He would do anything to get the money. At 75 he still hustles almost everyday at the local poolroom grinding him out a couple of hundred a week, and yes he still can't do anything without trying to move on someone. He sharks the whole time he plays. He's really just been a good drunk hustler because I started beating him when I was about 19,but he did beat players like boston joey for one.He beat him 10 in a row and when he lost the eleventh game he quit.He wasn't a gambler,he was a thief. He always said gambling was for suckers. He was also one that has never chopped the money right in his life. I'm sure cornbread could tell some stories about his business with him also, but he did make enough money in Chicago to support his family here and the other family he had there that his wife here didn't find out about for twenty yrs. We call him the luckiest person in the world to still be alive. Sorry I got off topic but he wanted me to ask if anyone remembered him.

I remember him He use to play in all the bars he was a great bar player. He was around when Mexican Johnny Gorge Walker Jr Henchen. Mexican Ben Johnny Boss THe Bird Boston Joey He was aroud when the bar adtion was very good. I dont remember playing him but he went all over. And Bill Matlock came around after him. And Joe Salazar was a real good bar player too at that time. Bar action was at its peack at that time. And Js Swetman had a good reputation for being a good bar player. Thier were lots of good bar players back then. And I can tell you those bar players would all gamble. Not like today. And you had to make sure you didnt get Jared or stuck up. Thier were a lot of dangerous people aroud thier. And Maybe Ronnie didnt acknowledge him because he beat Ronnie. But its nice to say hello to anyone you havant seen for 40 years. But thats the way it is. And I seen him in Alabama when I was with Frosty. He might no Frosty too. And He probable didnt even no me when I seen him in Alabama. I keep under cover all the time and never used my name. THats why people say the didnt her of me on the road. Will who would no James Gear? And I went everywere with frosty down south. I was aroud the country a lot but nobody new mw because I didnt go to tournaments. And I didnt play in tournaments. And Jack remembers me on the road.
