Ok, here is my proposed ideas to take care of this mess. First off, lets be realistic here. It takes a month to get room proposals turned in and any kind of poll around here takes a month. So that's at least two months. So these are my proposals to make this easier:
I think we need to seriously consider making this tournament last two days only. Sat-Sunday. This is just a idea, don't freak out on me yet. Cutting the races down will accomplish this. This will be more inclusive for our members who cannot afford it or actually work, because right now its its such a crazy long, time consuming, expensive trip. Its also a heavier burden on the rooms, locals and members in general. If you get there early like some of us it also gives you more time to match up or see the sights etc
Ok, for your consideration:
1. Set the date the same weekend every year. I think we already know that but lets get that set right away
2. Any interested parties who want to propose their local room up for the next tournament will have 45 days from the end of the members tournament to submit their room. This should include your legwork verifying with the owner the dates and our tournament guidelines, players qualifications etc. Negotiating table time, checking room rates etc should be part of your proposal. (This gives everybody two weeks to settle back in after the tournament and 30 days to get their proposals submitted. That leaves 10-1/2 months)
3. Have a 30 day poll and elect the room. Only verified members should be allowed to vote and as usual please don't vote if you can't attend. (That leaves 9 -1/2 months until the next tournament starts.
4: in the next two weeks our local representative verify's again with the winning owner, gets the fliers printed out and posted in the room ASAP. Fliers should clearly state our member qualifications, required membership guidelines to participate and of course the dates etc. (this leaves 9 months until play starts)
5. Qualification guidelines proposed as follows. You must be a verified member of at least 7 months. (that gives the locals 60 days to become a verified member...) Verified membership should be as simple as having another verified member of at least one year and 50 posts propose you for verification and personally vouch for you with Steve or his proxy ( this is common among the Elks/Eagles etc. but usually its two) Member must have 21 posts to show they are participating. (that's only 3 a month) New members MUST introduce themselves in the new member area that way if there is a problem we will all know about it imediatly. .
6. Special considerations: Of course there are people who have contributed greatly here who might not post much like Steve mentioned such as the Greg Sullivan's etc. etc. There is no way we should shut these folks out should they want to play. An easy way to do this for our members is to take a vote.
I propose any special consideration player not verified at least 7 months and that has less than 21 posts should be proposed to the membership at least 45 days in advance of the tournament. A 7 day poll should take place and at least 70% of the verified members should approve of the proposed individual for them to play.
7: if it looks like a new member is say posting rymes 21 times in a row to punch up their post counts, not introducing themselves to the membership
after being asked by the membership etc, they should be reported to Steve or his proxy and it should be up to Steve to remove their verification status. This should also take care of any members who before tournament time have proven unworthy of verification or membership status in general.
Ok, thats my proposals to reduce the tournament problems
