Great.

I hope David and John are already thinking about whether to have 32 or 48 next year.

I think they want to have a full bracket of 32 players next year John and I don't think it's going to be a problem filling it. We plan on seeking out sponsors for both the SS II later this year and for the 2nd Annual Seniors event next year. Once these events are well grounded and have established some notoriety it's seems very possible to me that a beer company ( perhaps Budweiser ) would like to add some $$$ to the prize pool. They have a huge advertising budget and are always looking for ways to further their product in the eyes of the drinking public.

With Poolactiontv.com providing the coverage and Jeremy Jones and Sylver Ochoa doing the blow by blow commentary, these tournaments should receive a broader base following and that always appeals to sponsors. We are going to give it a whirl anyway and if we do get sponsors on board it should certainly peak interest in player participation and increase the fan base.

Meanwhile, we are two weeks out and counting.
See ya soon:)

Yes, 32 makes the most sense.

We need to get FastEddie to work on some sponsorships. He can talk the bark off a tree.

I reccomend starting with Viagra, Geritol, Preparation H and Rogaine. :heh

Not the only demographic group we should be aiming at John, but funny nonetheless. Lol:)

32 players for the simple reason that Bogies Billiards will not comfortably accommodate more players in the time frame ( 3 days ) allotted for completion of the event. 8 GC tables will handle 32 players in 3 full days of play. Larger fields would extend the tournament another day, which wouldn't bother me if some heavy weight sponsors jumped on board and increased the prize pool significantly.

It wouldn't surprise me if that happened down the road in a few short years, the game of one pocket is becoming more and more popular with all age groups and people are living longer, so there is an actively growing player pool from which to draw more entries every year.

Besides John, let's face it, when you reach 65, there ain't a lot of things that blow your skirt up! It's something to do that's fun, and if you happen to enjoy competitive pool, it's a venue that's totally fair and unbiased because everybody is old :)

Thank you sir :)

1ST Annual Senior One Pocket Classic

1ST Annual Senior One Pocket Classic

I'm just wondering how this will play out on Friday, the 1st day of tournament play?

With 24 players in a double elimination format, 8 people will draw a bye in the first round. Bogies has 8 tables they are using for the tournament so that allows the other 16 players to play their 1st round matches at the same time. The result of those matches will be 8 on the winners side and 8 on the 1 loss side. The winners will then play the 8 who drew byes in the 1st round and the result from those matches will again be 8 on the winners side with 8 going to the 1 loss side. At this point the entire field remains with 8 on the winners side and 16 on the 1 loss side.

Now the question is, should we play any matches on the 1 loss side Friday and send players home on the 1st day?

Seems like two matches for 16 players and 1 match for 8 players on Friday might not be enough if the tournament started early Friday morning, but if it started around 1:00 or 2:00 in the evening on Friday then it should work out for everybody, like the travelers from great distances and players who were in action late Thursday night.

With a return to the tables on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM playing the 16 players who are on the 1 loss side, we would be down to 8/8 by 4:00 PM, with 8 headed home.

If we played the 8 winners side and the 8 on the 1 loss side we'd be down to 4/8 by 7:00 PM, with another 4 players headed home

Then I suppose they would play 2 more matches on the winners side and 4 more matches on the 1 loss side, finishing up somewhere around 10:00PM, sending 4 more players home. Leaving 2/6 to be played Sunday.

I'm not at all familiar with brackets and how they work, if someone is, feel free to speak up.

Just seems to me that sending players home on the first day is a little chilly.
I guess we can decide on this and other things at the players meeting Friday.
Just thought I'd throw it out for discussion and see how some of you felt about it.

We have a tournament director who will run things for us, but I'm pretty sure we can set guidelines for him to follow.

If it were really "sending home" I'd be concerned. OTOH, we're coming from everywhere and would imagine most plan to be there for the duration anyway. I think many will feel as I do that it's just as much about socializing, rail-birding and matching up as it is about being in tournament action every day. (But maybe that's just my dead money excuse. :) )

My bottom line: Let smooth match-scheduling take precedence over 1-and-done worries. However, if it looks like everything works well with a later start on Friday, I'd be in favor of that. Lots of us will probably play late Thurs. (if my $40 holds out.) :p

One more thing: Since FastEddie won't be there, who's gonna buy my hotdogs?

I always said you are a great humanitarian. Has the Nobel Committee heard about your unbounded generosity?

Seed 1 thru 5 or 6

Seed 1 thru 5 or 6

Please someone seed the first 5 or 6 so I can Buy someone! I don't know the WESTERNERS, or who is the favorite. Okay,😊, if I have to ask I probably don't belong in this field....ticket is paid for or I'd give the spot up. Maybe I'll get lucky win the Calcutta.

Thanks. Bill Rowsey

Pretty hard to seed us old farts Bill, you included.:D On a good day with a few rolls I might beat anyone, on a bad day when I get the yips and the arthritis acts up, I might go two and out.

Wayne Pullen and Jerrry Matchin are probably the cream of the western crop, but Frank The Barber and I have snuck up on em before and can't be counted out either. Now you throw in a couple Hall of Famers like Billy and Buddy and who knows if the Texas guys will come off the stall. This one will be hard to figure out with all the unknown players, but I know one thing, whoever wins it will have their hands full.

From all the gossip, I'd have to give the edge to Wayne Pullen, everybody says he plays a very strong game. Tom Wirth has to be in the mix along with John Henderson. James Christopher would be a contender if he would ever practice a couple of hours, but he's not in good form right now. Walter Glass is a good player or so I'm told, and I suspect that all the people coming from great distances aren't coming for a haircut, I would imagine they can play a pretty good game of one pocket also.

I don't know several of the players from out of town, including you Mr. Rowsey, you may play like burnin hell for all I know!

One thing is for certain though,
It's gonna take a very good player to win this tournament, racing to 4 negates a lot of the chance factor that comes with a shorter race to 3.

For those of you coming in tomorrow ( Wednesday ) and want a little action, just let me know, my dance card isn't completely filled yet.

I will try and find out tomorrow. I am in Houston but will try and find out from Bogies in the morning.

The player auction is around 6:30 pm Thursday and hopefully they will make it for that.
