First off, let me sincerely thank once again all of my fellow onepocket.org members who voted for me to be the onepocket.org representative.
As for my 2015 DCC experience, I’m gonna give my trip report with grades…
WEATHER AND TRAVEL: GRADE A >>> No problemo's - thankfully, it was dry, clear, and not very cold.
SOCIALIZING: GRADE A >>> As a bunch of other guys have already also said - it was great to hang out and play some One Pocket with my onepocket.org bro’s – both the guys I already know, and the ones I met for the first time..all good guys, and also, they can all draw their ball…...but now..the 3 reasons that I didn’t give this socializing section an A+ and had to give it just an A are these: #1. Unfortunately there were a coupla guys that I did'nt get a chance to play, and/or hang out with. #2. Whilst over-spotting Col. Bille, he got lucky and came out a game ahead when we played...:frus And #3. At one point when a bunch of us were sitting/standing around the table that we were all playing/gambling on, somebody farted and nobody would own up to it…it was probably Dustin..
As onepocket.org rep, I did make it a point as best I could, to introduce all of the guys to each other, who had never met before......and although I couldn't bring muffins from home to the DCC (I would have had to pack them on Wed. before I left, and they'd have been too old by Sun.)...instead..while taking a drive into town on Monday, I picked up a dozen doughnuts and brought them down to the main tournament room for all the bro's on Monday afternoon.
FOOD, AT THE VARIOUS HOTEL/CASINO RESTAURANTS, CAFE'S:
FOOD QUALITY: GRADE C >>> the best two things I had, were the blackened salmon and the banana’s foster, both at the buffet...
FOOD PRICES/VALUE FOR YOUR $$$: GRADE D- >>> here’s just one 'highway robbery' example: the price for a cheese or almond Danish at the breakfast café was $4.25... ...
MY GAMBLING/GAMBLING OPPORTUNITIES: GRADE B >>> Had a good win/loss ratio for the trip - made a little $$$...but it was disappointing that none of the partners matches that we had woofed about and were supposed to play, managed to take place - woulda been a lot of fun - I was looking forward to them…and it was also disappointing that I didn’t get to steal Dr. Billy’s cash, since we never got to play our prop challenges…:heh...and as always..not enough hours in the day, or enough available tables, for all of us to have played as much as we would have liked to.
TOURNAMENT DRAW AND RESULTS: GRADE D >>> A week and a half has gone by and I'm still pi$$ed off about how my matches went down.....I know you guys don't want to hear about them :sorry (except a coupla guys pm'ed me and asked me) - cuz everybody's bored listening to stories about other peoples bad beats - whether in poker or pool.....so I'll say it as short as I can...
In a nutshell...my two losses were to two long-time, seasoned, strong players (the first guy, Jeff Abernathy, U.S. Open amateur champion in 2013, I've been seeing just about every year at the DCC for the last 16 years)....both of these matches went hill-hill/2 games to 2 - I lost the final game of one match 8-7, and I lost the final game of the other match 8-6 - these guys play/played good, but I was supposed to win both matches, and I lost both matches because of the exact same type of bad roll...beating each guy to the first shot, I had the lead in both final games and was still running balls, when while making a cross-corner, I kissed off balls and scratched - these two bad luck scratches (one of them very freakish) cost me the two matches.....onepocket.org bro's, Mike, Don, Clyde, and Dee watched this happen.....in between those two matches, I drew an average player for a change, and won that match 3-0.
That about sums it up...hopefully we'll all be there again together in 2016.
