Please suggest players for our One Pocket Hall of Fame inductions for this coming January at Derby City. Our HOF dinner will be held Wednesday the 30th of January, 2019 at the 21th annual Derby City Classic.

So who should be inducted this year? Who among the players out there have been at or near the very top of One Pocket or Banks competition for the last 20 years or so? This can be in tournament or action -- of course we respect both!! Also please consider what they have given back to the game in terms of promotion and education -- that is another of our criteria.

Also, please suggest candidates for our "Lifetime Pool in Action" award. This award does not have to be either One Pocket or Bank Pool! We have a lot of flexibility with this award, which can be players, backers, promoters, educators, etc, that have championed their game and/or contributed to the action side of cue sports in a manner that warrants lifetime recognition.

You can review who has already been honored here on onepocket.org in our HOF pages:

I would vote for Scott Frost for someone alive and also wouldn't mind seeing some of the deceased old timers get in who should have already. I still think Joey Spaeth should be in the one pocket hall of fame as a no brainer.

Greg Stevens ( Posthumous) for lifetime in action award....
Greg was in action more in one year, than anyone else was in an entire lifetime...and he was a monster!!!

I heard he got out of pool and moved somewhere like Kansas but did not know he had died :(

True, His family lived in Wichita, and Greg moved back there and opened a poolroom... He didn’t allow gambling!! If he caught you, he’d bar you...

However, prior to him getting religion, or whatever happened to him, he was without a doubt the king of action in the pool room... Nobody in the history of pool played more or gambled as much as Greg...

Rodney may want to add something here, as he probably knew Greg as well as anyone...

While looking over the banks, I noticed a major force in banking was absent. Maybe because Chicago is such a small town.

Another good one for the Lifetime Pool in Action!

Also Jimmy Mataya is another possibility

Bucktooth brought a suitcase full of money to the Reno Open when they had the amateur and Pro tournaments at the sands. He stood on the top of the stairs of the pool room to the Casino “negotiating” with Erin. He was violently robbed a few months later and disappeared for a while. Last time I saw him play was for $500 a game with a newbie from Santa Cruz, Al Markasky. The place, California Billiards, when the nuclear scientist reopened it.
One of the first times I saw Gentleman John play was against Worlds Champion Larry Lisciotti. He played him the first day and John won, I overheard him say that the only reason he beat was Lisciotti was because he didn’t know John. When he would find out, Larry, The Prince of Pool would win. Next day at the original California Billiards, John lost, being his normal jovial self. Lettuce Larry and I drove over from Santa Cruz both days to watch since John has been a legend on the Best Coast for over a half century.

I think Little Al Romero should go in the hall of fame. He loves the game more than anybody, his life has proven that, and he was never the type to seek out any type of recognition, which I admire even more. Al has played well in one pocket for his entire life and for all the right reasons in my opinion.

I would nominate Harold Worst. His life was shorter than most but regarded as one of the very best all-around players to have ever lived, including one pocket!

Scott Frost/Alex P. would be my living players.

Thanks for doing this Steve,
Dave

I second Harold Worst. “Worst is best”
