Since Facebook has hit the Internet, some pool peeps have migrated over there to get their pool fix and news. I was one of the last to join Facebook, but I finally gave in.

I have noticed over the past year or two, the participation rate in AzBilliards and Onepocket's forum has changed. It used to be AzBilliards had a great deal of posts and activity, much more than Onepocket. However, in recent times, I have noticed that Onepocket's participation is larger than AzBilliards.

Folks still go to all places, though. I visit AzB and here. I will say, though, that this forum's popularity is growing each year, and that's a good thing for one pocket and pool in general.

thats because its a forum of good pool players and smart people. not counting the ghost of course.

here the posts arent about stupid things that have no relation to pool or can easily be seen to be trivial.

every thread can be read and enjoyed and most you can learn something from.
not so on the other spot where most threads are just to be skipped.

Let me just say that the people on this site are very well spoken, and if they disagree with you, they are articulate enough to not make you feel out of place. No one really knows who I am and they respond to my posts as if they know me personally. Can't beat this website.

Respect is usually earned, manners are usually taught, and being polite is always best... The active membership at onepocket.org exhibit these simple qualities and adhere to the principles set down by the founder, Mr. Steve Booth...

I'm a new member, ( about 2 years now ) but I've observed that instigators of controversy and mayhem aren't well received here and are quickly put on a short leash...

Here at onepocket.org, there is a great mix of contributors, and if you asked most of them, I'm betting every one of them would consider themselves part of the family... I know I certainly do, I feel like part of the gang...

It's a great site for comraderie and kibitzing, while primarily being dedicated to the game of one pocket and the learning thereof, it's more, it's a family of good people... I'm a fan...:)

BTW
Thanks for your observation...
How is Keith? He has an open invitation to come to Houston in October and snap off the Seniors if he's old enough...

Thanks for the kind words JAM and the rest of you. I really don't see how we could ever reach the AZB level of traffic, because we are more of a niche -- but we prove that One Pocket is a strong and growing presence in the pool world -- and with an emphasis on world because it is great to see a growing interest in Europe.

a growing interest in Europe.

It was great to see Alex (Alex Lely, "eengat" on 1P org) make it to Buffalo's for the tournament. He says there is a growing 1p group in his region (the Netherlands and environs) with 21 members and match-ups almost every day.

Unfortunately (or not) the money is very small. No hope for a professional 1P specialist, but down to brass tacks, that doesn't make it much different from anywhere else for more than 3-4 top guys, at best.

Anyone who gets a chance to meet Alex and enjoy a few minutes or more of conversation with him will be glad he (or she) did.

I don't do Facebook maybe because I'm too old school. But here at One Pocket.Org I can sit back at my leisure and enjoy the site. Steve Booth pays attention to us in that he created the site and let's us go at each other as long as we are respectful of others opinions and ideas. Jeff is correct in that we are a family or community who enjoy the game and can come together to put our respective two cents into the mix. There is an old saying: "Good Programs Start With Good Leadership." Thanks Steve.

Agreed, I enjoyed Alex for a few racks during the live streams at Buffalo while he sat in for Larry Shwartz on commentary. Very pleasant and knowledgable take on the game.

LS John thanks for kind words
I was at Buffalo's with the room owner of Hague5
The only 1-p room in Europe
Stakes are low, yes but interest and passion is big
And almost as a natural consequence the stakes seem to be going up step by step
They learn to match up
To protect balls, score and money and thus they learnthat in 1p a well balanced matchup regularly leads to only a 1/2/3-game lead after 4/5/6/7-hours of play
Past 6 months some impressive bets have been made for dutch standards at least

In Hague5 they are going to organize a league this summer, a series of four events with a marginal handicapping.

Buffalo's is a trip. 24/7
Lots of action
We first spent time in redshoes, which is great but in hindsight that was only foreplay
I have had my hours ofplay in Buffalo's the past week. Booked winners, booked losers
I just like to play to much. Want to be in action always
Long hours and little sleep took their toll. Played Jamie Ferrel 2 sessions but couldn't crack the code
He is playing with a lot of confidence and heart
Reflecting upon it
I think i followed his rythm to much, he plays an uptempo game
Sees solutions in an instant

Meeting and socializing with some of the more senior members was most fun. As they are in general more laidback
Bill Rowsey, Bumperman, Gulfport and many others
I needto thank Joe Long who invited me over

Wow. I haven't heard Jamie Farrell's name in a long time. The first time I ever saw anyone play the game of one pocket... Jamie Farrell was playing Charlie Green for a hundred a game. If I remember correctly Jamie played with his chin touching the cue. There weren't that many people back then doing it. Now it seems like the norm.

Find the good stuff that others do and put it in the new 1 Pocket site.

My favorite thing on AZB is the Streaming Guide. Put one on the 1Pocket site and make it better, by updating it.

Go 1 pocket!!!

Come around more often, and encourage some of your friends and students to jump in on the WWYDs.

I never heard how you finished in the 9-ball. We heard a rumor that you got in the $$, but nothing specific.

I now have two pool rooms on my bucket list when I retire: Griff's in Vegas and now Buffalo's in Beautiful Dixie. Sounds like this place is a hoot! I love the non-stop action. The barkfest must also be entertaining, I'll bet, knowing some of the characters.

Pool is alive and well, and especially one-pocket.

In the '70s and '80s era, when we drove down South, the popular game of the older folks at that time seemed to be snooker. There was a snooker table in every pool room. Today, though, one-pocket has surpassed snooker as far as popularity with social shooters, and it's attracting the younger generation as well.

I still have vision of Seattle Sam, all 300-plus pounds of him, climbing up on the pool table, on all fours, for a reach shot in one-pocket. It used to be perfectly legal in most pool rooms but not anymore.
