It was a great tournament over the past three days featuring some great one pocket with some fantastic players all thanks to Tres Kane and the Bates family of Bullshooters for making it happen. The prize pool was $10,000 with 29 players, the entry fee was $200 with $4000 added and no money taken out of the entry fees which is unheard of and the players really get paid good. Where did the other $200 come from?, from our very own Jay Helfert. When Jay heard it was $9800 in prize money, he reached in pulled out $200 and said make it an even $10,000!

There were good crowds there sweating the one pocket, the crowd was around Frost as he beat Terry Osborne in a match that took around 30 minutes for a race to 3. Action was alive and well with some good sets going on between people around the room in the after hours, $500 one pocket and ten ball sets. I even got to play Mark Griffin some cheap one pocket for a few hours, we both had a good time doing so.

Bullshooters is a big room with plenty to do, it has over 40 tables, darts, shuffleboard, full bar and plenty of TVs, UFC was on Saturday night which packed them in. The food in this place is very good and the bar is full with all your wants. They have lots of Gold Crowns, a few Diamonds, bar tables and even 8 footers too. If you are in Phoenix a stop to Bullshooters will be something I recommend, it is the largest room in Arizona I do believe.

The favorites in the tournament were Frost, Parica and Ulrich but none of them had an easy time in this tournament. Frost lost to Briseno to go to the hot seat match with Ulrich in a fantastic hill to hill match. Parica lost to Eric Young and then finally Bernie Pettipiece on the last day to finish in 7th/8th place. Ulrich had a tough time with Tom Neil from Tucson as there match went hill to hill but ultimately Louis would end up in the hot seat of the tournament. Bernie lost his first match to battle all the way back through the tournament which is a great feat but the story for Bernie as of late in the past few tournaments he has played.

I have posted the final 8 and the payouts of the tournament and also some videos of matches captured during the three days, I hope you enjoy them. Thanks to George Teyechea and Jay Helfert for commentating the finals, The Bates family for the hospitality, the players who showed up to play and fans to sweat it, and of course Tres Kane for digging deep in his pockets to add all that money and make it happen. I hope this becomes an annual event and perhaps some sponsors can get involved so it does happen again.

The spot for the CSI US Open One Pocket was drawn and went to Jose Gonzales, could not go to a nicer guy.

Lenny, as usual, thanks for the unselfish and tireless gift of your time to all of us here at 1p.o! I didn't get to see as much of the coverage as I would have liked. But the streaming of yours that I did see was very well done!! And now, posting the videos as well-- what a guy!!!

Wow. Thank you.

I want to comment on Ulrich's one pocket, because i saw him play very early on. He played my old backer one night giving a pretty hefty spot, and Louie played so bad. I mean, we are talking like no idea of how to play one pocket in the slightest. I'm not posting as a knock, but the opposite. I watched some of the video and he plays so well, taking shots I don't see many others choosing, and executing them well. I am so happy to see him playing so well. He is seriously one of the nicest guys in pool as far as i'm concerned. He has obviously embraced one pocket at some point, and it is great to see and he certainly seems to have a good mind for it.
