No it isn't Artie, but I did confide in him prior to evaluating all the wwyd's you put up and we were in total agreement that you see shots others don't.

I play on a Diamond with Trnmnt. balls/ measles cueball. I couldnt 2 rail the 12 and hold whitey. If I did , when I miss, the 12 would go 4 rails into the 4balls around the spot.

Well, since John knew he was the better player and mover (spotting Steve 10-8), and he likes 2-railers (and this one was laying dead-ahead)..he decided to take the low risk shot and shot the 2-railer, as Doc and Keith also liked...he missed making it by an inch or two, and it ended up like this >>>

so now it gets knocked away and he isnt the big favorite anymore. and if he made it he is now in trouble.
perfect example of why you dont play a conservative shot when you have an aggressive one that can improve greatly your winning chances.

both the 11 and 5 are more make able shots and can easily lead to running out the game.

Brother beatle...I myself would have banked the 11 in this spot...but, one thing you said is not at all true...

John was in no trouble at all if he made the 2-railer - he has a simple shot to shoot next = all he has to do is shoot the 5 almost straight ahead, cutting it slightly in the direction of his pocket, thus moving it to his side of the table, while having his cueball follow down to the foot rail, with the small cluster now hiding the 5.

not my style of play to take a game with a decent edge and turn it into an up table game with none. not the shot for me with the score close.

but we all have our own styles and have found what works best for us over the years.

John hit it well, although I'm surprised he didn't cue it low, to stop the CB and protect the 12 if it missed. He may not have felt comfortable with the CB being fairly close to the foot rail.

Good wwyd,
