I will be moving to Natchez around the first of Sept. Anyone with any ideas as to where I can shoot pool, mainly one pocket, I would be most grateful. Anyone with a 9 ft. table in their home I will be a very polite guest.--Smitty

When I left that area, six years ago, there was a small room on US 61 North, and they played one-pocket, but no gambling to speak of. I don't know if it is still open - I do know that it has at least changed hands.

Smitty, Natchez is a neat little town right on the Mississippi River delta. As I'm sure you know-- the climate will be a big change from Seminole!

As in most towns with casinos, that type of gambling tends to dry up the pool action. However I believe that there is a half-decent poolroom there, and as I recall, the owner likes to play one-pocket. I think he's posted on some of the pool sites. He also puts on some cheap tournaments; and there are some 1P players around. This is all from memory. I've never played there.

You're only 2-1/2 hours from the Gulfport area, so if you ever want to make a trip down to the coast you can contact me or Col. Bille. We both have good tables at our homes, and especially Bille loves inexpensive action. There is also a decent poolroom in Gulfport called Skeeters.

In addition you have a straight shot to Baton Rouge, which has a well known room called Bayou Billiards. There's definitely action available there, but the equipment typically has been in poor condition. The owner (Mike Black?) is a top area player.

You also have fairly close access to action rooms in Jackson, Miss., New Orleans (Kenner and Metairie), Chalmette, and probably others.

What caused you to move from TX to Miss.? Job change? Please don't hesitate to call me if there is any way I can help. P.M. me for my cell ph#.

Doc, thanks for the info. My wife works as a Landman and took a job with a company out of Houston that has a project in Natchez, seems like it is the next big oil find. I have played at Bayou Billiards before, at that time Mike was just playing there not the owner. I checked the amusement section of the yellow pages and called the number for Duke's Billiards and it was disconnected, but you never know.---Smitty

Well, I hope the Natchez room is still open and viable. But either way, be sure to let me know anytime you're thinking about heading for the Dixie Riviera.

I saw Ben Ledbetter today in Baton Rouge. He is the former owner of the room on US 61 North in Natchez. He told me he sold the room about five years ago, and it was not open long after that.

Ben and two other retirees play free at the senior citizens' center in Natchez, four days a week. He said there is a nine foot table with Simonis 860 cloth on it. They play one pocket, and If I recall correctly, they will bet one dollar, but you may have to give up some weight. Action on the river. :heh

"Action on the river"...:D

Well, Smitty, you may have to open a room!

Check Alexandria and Brookhaven. There might could be a room in those places. And of course, Jackson ain't that far.
