As I figured, Efren is very comfortable on these tables. The balls are falling and he can play his game. Billy is a gunslinger, but he's leaking and Efren is doing enough to punish him. It will be interesting to see how Efren's stamina is. Long races every night may degrade him somewhat.

Right now, it's 8-6 Reyes and Billy has won the last two.

From 8-4 and Efren in command, Thorpe has won four in a row to tie the first set 8-8 with Thorpe breaking. Efren has made a couple obvious mental errors as the set goes into its fifth hour.

Very competitive match, but it's kind of a tale of two sets. The first 12 games was definitely advantage Efren, but the last seven or eight games was Billy's.

JJ is unbelievably good.

Every time I hear him I think he's better than last time.

Default Day 1: Thorpe v. Reyes

The table is a little tighter than 4.5". Those dimensions are enough to give Efren the confidence to play his game. Efren raced out to a 8-4 lead, only to hold on for dear life as the younger Thorpe won four games in a row and threatened to steal the set. Finally, Efren settled down and got to the hill 9-8, where he held his break after making a three ball combo bank that nobody knows if it was intentional or not.

The format is best three out of five sets and the first set promised a close, competitive match between the two. If you are betting, bet on on Efren the first four hours and Thorpe the last four, if your customers are generous. The set lasted less than six hours, a quick pace for a race to 10 with 18 games played.

I think Efren has the edge but Billy is a streaky player and if the banks go in, he can be a force of nature.

I can only assume that he "got lucky!"

Thanks for the report.
