Wednesday(2 hours sleep on floor)
I played at Bogies on Tuesday night until 3am and I flew into Memphis from Houston on Wednesday night and arrived around 9:30pm. I summoned an Uber driver to get me to the Southhaven Recreation Center. As I was standing at the curb, I start chatting this guy up and explain I am there for a pool tournament. It turns out he is a pool player that organizes something calls Shark Tourney or similar sounding. An eight ball tournament I think in Oklahoma with a 8k Calcutta. It was random and kind of funny.
I arrived at the pool hall and to my delight I saw the great Bill Rousey when I first stepped in. He is undoubtedly one of the biggest supporters pool/billiards over decades. He has owned several pool halls and plays a great game as well. He also spent about 5 minutes discussing his love for my new blonde hair. I jumped into action with oneholenut because why not practice against a fellow Moran. We didn't stay up to late. I made my customary fine dining stop at the Waffle House. I didn't book a hotel room, so the Colonel and Oneholenut graciously let me sleep on the floor of the hotel. I even got a pillow.

Thursday(3 hours)
We woke up the next morning and hit a diner for breakfast. There were plenty of Trump hats for sale if anyone needs one(wink wink). On Thursday, I decided to take my semiannual beating from Newkirk. He is one of the nicest guys and has a strong Jedi mind game that I couldn't penetrate. I always learn a couple of shots from Newkirk, so it is worth the lesson.
A few guys had a house they rented on AirBnB that had 3 bedrooms. I ended up staying with Nick, Tom, and Mitch. I shared a room with Tom.
After several beers, I felt it was time to hit Tunica for a bit. Only two 1-3 NL tables were going and I lost a small used Toyota or something playing slots. Uber had ZERO cars running at 4:15 am so I had to wait for a local taxi to pick me up.

Friday(2 hours sleep)
I went to breakfast then tried to go to sleep in the room and had a headache. It only felt good when I was up walking around. I played Colonel Billie for a long session and managed to escape unscathed.
I got an uber driver from the house to the Rec Center. Turns out the uber driver plays one pocket and is from St. Louis. On Friday night, we had the Calcutta for the tourney. Jeanne bought me for 30 bucks and I wanted to make her some cash. The tourney started and of all people I drew Bill Rousey. We were on the stream table and I didn't want to look like a donkey online, so I managed to squeak a win out. I then played Warren on the stream table. Warren and I hung out last fall at the first melee, but never got to match up. He missed a few balls in the first game and I thought I could run away with the match. Boy was I wrong. He got back in line and started showing a pretty strong game. I left him a couple of banks that I typically leave for players that don't bank that well. He made both of them center pocket and that was the last time I let him see any banks. I squeaked out a hill hill win.
I tried to buy oneholenut in the calcutta, but Rousey took him away. I ended up with Mitch who could have been the dark horse if he hit his ball pocketing gear.
When I woke up, I saw that Tom Wirth must have left the room to head for greener pastures on the couch. Apparently, Chicago Fats snores after drinking and no sleep.

Saturday(3 hours sleep)
Mitch and i jumped in Myers booth for a bit and that was fun.
Tom and I were scheduled to play our match on Saturday. I played a few games with Tom before our match and he bbq'd me. We played a hill hill match that was tough and he came out ahead winning the deciding game. I bought his DVDs in the morning, but didn't get a chance to watch them.
Bill got us some nice BBQ to have throughout the day. On the B side I had to play Mitch in a race to 2. I played Mitch a few months earlier and knew his game. The first game went back and forth I snuck a win out. The second game I made a decent 8 and out to put the match away. On to Nick.... I needed a win here for Jeanne, but I couldn't pull it off. I made a few execution mistakes in the first game and Nick torched me in the second game with a come from behind win.
Saturday night I matched up with oneholenut again and held my own for a while. He was still on the winners side and needed to get some sleep. The pool hall was packed with coeds and pool players. After our match I chatted with JR for a bit by the snooker table. There was a young kid playing snooker by himself, so I asked if I could play with him. He taught me how to play snooker. I ran the first four balls, but damn those pockets are small.
JR normally wakes up at 3 in the afternoon on a regular basis, so Newkirk and Warren stop by on the way home from the casino. Newkirk is not only a champion one pocket player, but he also knows how to stack a guy when he has AA preflop. After a few games of snooker, JR and I decided to get dinner after midnight. We went to Memphis and ate at the diner on Beal street.

Sunday(4 hours sleep)
Since I was knocked out of the tournament, I was hoping to get in some action. My local sparring partner John Frey was not there and wasn't slated to get there until 4pm. I had a 6pm flight so I had to take my second fiddle Mitch. Mitch caught fire and didn't miss a ball for about 5 games in a row.
Mitch and I had a fun Uber to the airport reminiscing about Tracy his old college sweetheart and his wife :)
I got upgraded to first class and landed in Houston at 9:30. By 10pm, I was in action against a nice old guy named Willie at Bogies. Some of the beatings I took rubbed off on me and I played great to book a winner.
It was great to see John and Tracy and Dustin and Crabb. I met local player Johnny Willis and it is always a pleasure talking with local player Todd Williams.

Special thanks to Billy, Denisia, and Stephanie for keeping us wet and fed!!!
Thanks to Matt Hilton for the shirt!
Great job running the tournament!
