how do you hit that while not hitting it too hard where the 7 might come back around the table?

This is a common dilemma for me, where I want to do something with the cue ball, but the speed I would have to hit it will put too much speed on the object ball.

thanks.

treeMan.........This problem comes up for everyone at times....Two things that will help....

Give thought to, and concentrate on, picking an angle where the object ball will run into some of the up-table balls, thus impeding it's progress to come all the way back around the table for a sell-out....

Also, 'drag' the cue ball down to the top rail using MAXIMUM low outside english, which will allow you to hit the shot softer, resulting in the object ball not traveling as fast/far.

i did not think of the up table balls as blockers good point ghost. i just figured a half to 3/4 hit with lots of low outside english would spin it to the foot rail.
