Default Sit or stand

Playing a match of one pocket. Which you figure that will that a few hours. Do you prefer to sit between shots or stand the entire match. I prefer to stand. I find it takes less energy to do so rather than up and down which fatigues me.

I sit on a tall stool. It delays my expiration date.

I like to stand a little, I like to sit a little, it depends on my opponent and the type of seating available. But without a doubt, I believe that standing causes me to be more attentive to what is happening while my opponent is at the table.

Scientifically (via Google) speaking, men burn an extra 0.2 calories per minute while standing compared with sitting. Consequently, to stand quietly, instead of sitting, a 150 pound man can expect to burn between 50 to 114 calories per hour, or 400 to 912 calories in eight hours. Let's take the low number at 50 calories per hour. If you stand for three hours a day for five days, that's around 750 calories burnt. Over the course of a year, it would add up to about 30,000 extra calories, or around 8 pounds of fat. Remember, this is the conservative loss of calories and bigger men will lose even more.

So for those of us who have packed on a few extra pounds, don't sit...Stand! For those of us who have wives and girlfriends who believe we as pool players don't get enough exercise, don't sit...Stand!

Now with all that good "standing" information...beware. The Ergonomics journal claims that long bouts on your feet may not be so healthy, either. It reported that standing for 2 hours a day could lead to physical discomfort all over the body and make it harder to stay focused and energized.

I prefer to lean against something if possible, take a load off my feet. A good bar stool with a rounded vinyl top is easy to slide/on/off. I saw a GC I that had a lean too at the foot of the table attached to the wall and carpeted at a 45 degree angle, about 3 foot off the ground, simple but effective place to set your ass.

I prefer to stand but some opponents take offense to that. They prefer that when you're not at the table to shoot that you should be sitting.
