You have to scroll to snooker/pool and then click on the World Classic.

This is fun to look at but it obviously is being posted by an offshore gambling outfit that doesn't have a clue.

I didn't know I played that good. 1/2 the odds of players like Luat & Kiamco. I just lost 8/6 to Sambujon a few weeks ago and these guys are probably a tic above him.

It will be fun to keep track on this site and I wonder if they will really let you bet at these odds.

Some of those lines are hilarious. I'd give 8-1 on Strickland myself! I'm rated too high at 50-1. The true odds on me winning the 1P tournament would be just about the same as if I didn't play at all!

I'm guessing the 28 names are simply the guys who have pre-registered. Parenthetically it's smart to pay prior to Aug. 31 in order to save a $50 "late fee". I assume the odds will change when more signups are available.

Memphis Bill called me. He's bringing Nick Vita and Jason Evans. So the field will probably be dense with pro-level players.

I didn't see Lou Figueroa on the list. You'd better get registered, Lou. Quit playing hard to get. You know you're going to go.:D

"Dense with pro-level players" is an understatement -- 28 guys and most all of them killers. Could be a massacre (two and out) for the little guys. (It's also beginning to look like it'll be a pretty small event.)

And, Doc, I'm really and truly not going. I made that call a while back. But in addition, I was just at Ernie's (Ginacue) shop in LA this past week and went off for a good chunk of my discretionary "Send a Boy to Camp" funds. I'm having him refinish my cue; re-wrap it (with elephant ear); make two new shafts; re-taper the three old shafts (mit new ivory ferrules); AND make me a complete set of ivory joint protectors for the butt and all five shafts.

After forking over the dough for the work (and shipping), I walked out of his shop back onto Vineland Ave, and had to stop for a second for my head to stop spinning.

So the Send a Boy to Camp fund is a bit low right now. I'll be sitting this one out and will wait for something else to come up a bit down the road.

I'm couldn't say whether or not the betting list represents all the pre-registered players. But even if it is, I'm guessing that the majority of those who will be coming to play see no need to pre-register. Most events take all the players they can get, and the players know that. I'm still guessing that there will be 100-125 1P contestants. Hell, there will probably be 50 just from east Texas alone.

But even so, I figure that if Hendy is willing to fritter away $10,000, I shouldn't be concerned about a measley $250 entry fee.:D

I didn't realize that Ernie's shop was on Vineland Ave. He must be in North Hollywood? Too bad you blew all your "camp fund". Sorry you won't be there, but we'll catch you on down the road.

I explained my reasoning on the other thread Doc, but while Billy has responded, Artie hasn't said anything. Without him playing first, there is no game with Billy without readjusting. I know he's a better player than me, bad back or not. I will show up with my $$ and could lose the 10k, but am not sure if it will come off or not.

If it doesn't, it will be back to $50 to $200 a game and $500/$1,000 sets and that's my comfort zone anyway. I'll have a good time whatever happens and will be happy to give you whatever the Ghost does and enjoy the game. I like the way he matches up. My PC is not near as good as his and it's too late to change now.

There are many different ways to look at what's going on with this event, and I've heard a few different things, but it's so close, the best thing to do at this point is just wait for it to go off and see what actually ends up happening.

And yes, Ernie's shop is in N Hollywood. It's a hell of a setup. He showed me one expensive little piece of machinery he bought just so he could shave leather skins down to a particular thickness (thin) so the player could have their cue wrapped with leather and still get plenty of feedback in their grip hand. He's really a master.

And as you say, we'll catch each other at some other event in the not too distant future.

"Feed back in their grip hand" ???
Lou, I can tell you're an equipment guy, but what can the above mean.

I can't speak for Ernie, but I think what he was talking about was the "hit" of his cues. After all, a cue's "hit" is basically sound and vibration, and of course, cue ball reaction.

Different grip material changes the sound and vibration a player perceives. And, I think, we use multiple senses (eyes, ears, touch) to determine what our stroke is doing with the balls on any given day, on any given table. What you're feeling in your grip hand is the end result of the contact the cue tip has made with the cue ball, via the vibration traveling down the length of the cue. Ernie wants to make sure as much of that vibration/information, about what happened at the other end of the cue, gets to your hand, so it can go up your arm, and be processed by your on-board wetware:)

Ernie obviously goes to the nth degree with his cues. I doubt that anyone else considers the leather wrap thickness-- except to the extent that it matches up with the cue surface depth. I suppose a remote comparison regarding the feedback allowed by a thinner wrap material would be this: Offered a choice, would the average guy prefer a thick-skinned or a thin-skinned condom? [I realize that the thread will now go downhill from here.]

The obvious solution is to not use a wrap at all. It's simply become traditional to have a grip wrap. I suppose it permits a cheaper cost as well, since the craftsman does not have to include inlays and other design frills for 12-18 inches of the cue butt. I don't have a wrap on my break cue, and the hand on wood telegraphs to me immediately the quality of the hit.
