This, of course, is a shot everybody here knows. I have just shown the basic idea below - 3 rails from his pocket to your side/pocket.

I used two different variations of it to eventually win two different games and the session last night (I "stacked" him off of it once and that broke open the game for me early). It is very strong and versatile, imho. You can do everything from going for your pocket to pulling the ob up short on your long rail, and from bringing the cb far uptable to leaving it on the foot rail. A lot can be accomplished and it is a simple, easy-to-control shot. I like it!

Skin,

Some guys are scary good at those 3-railers. They shoot them well from long distance, hit 'em with follow, hit 'em with draw or whatever the shot calls for.

Here is one that I always liked but it doesn't come up as often and you have less leeway with the cueball. But when it's laying right and you put it near your hole and keep the rock on the rail behind some balls, it's deadly.

And where's your avatar? I always liked it.

Dennis, thanks for the shot. I did not know about that one. I will have to learn it. I am beginning to really like those controllable mutli-rail shots where you can get a ball from near his hole to near yours without going through all the traffic downtable...and leave him bad.

Avatar back up by your request. And since Fanny seemed impressed by it, and she has allowed a pic of her sister to be posted, I have included one of my brother, the backer (notice the watch), below. I hope she can contain herself and not start stalking across the Wets Texas prairie. ;) Well, if she does we have the famous Barefoot Bob to give us an early warning of her coming.

Skin---I as well love that shot but through experience I only play it when there is good cueball protection and I would never play it in a one ball game.

As far as your brother....I only have eyes for you;) And don't tempt me you know I always wanted an exuse to go to Texas and your hottness is a great reason
Extra XOXO's

P.S--I cant wait to wiggle those ears;)

Fanny, that shot is good even with one ball on the table if you pull it up so that the scratch in the side in in play.

And...be careful what you fantasize about wiggling those ears. They can wiggle a gal back...and good. This is why me 'n Bones have Barefoot Bob keeping our back. Too many return customers...and Bob is lonely.

Bob, called "Barefoot Bob" because he hunts wild hogs across the mesquite- and-cactus thorned hard scrabbled land of West Texas barefooted; chases them down with his dogs, captures them live, tosses them into a cage in his truck, and ships 'em to 'market". Plus, he has an advanced degree in Etruscan music and can make a crowd weep when he flutes those very old tunes. Not a bad guy to know...

I'm not scared of barefoot Bob---I'll bring my two closest friends to distract him!

And sometimes you can play this shot and sneak the cueball right around the stack...

Skin, I have a lot of trouble with this shot, example a, page #1, too much english on the 3 rail. Page #2, I do better with, but only if the stack or some blockers are there.Any advice ? Rod, you're kidding, right? I shoot almost entirely on instinct. I couldn't tell anybody how to shoot a shot to save my life. And most of the time, I cannot tell anybody how I shot what I just shot. Weird, but I have learned to live (and die) with it.

Skin, I wasn't a natural playing pool, I had to learn how everything works. I can make some diffucult shots and explain how, to others, because I try to figure out what makes it all work. I've learned shots from better players, and also from some who don't play as well as me. Many natural players have created muscle memory and can make shots, but can't explain how they do it.

I shot at this shot the other day it was my game ball, I was getting spotted 10/6, I missed it 2" short-It rolled 6" up table I stopped the CB. Thus leaving the return bank, I tried to hit it hard enough not to leave the return bank if I missed it but my table has soft cushions, on a diamond I hit it pleanty hard enough not to leave the return bank. I lost the game.

Rod, I envy guys like you who can pick apart the details and explain the how's and why's to somebody else. That's a real talent, in my opinion, and one I wish I had.

Skin

P.S. I set up your #1 shot this morning and took a look. If you will try a slightly low cb with no english, it will cut down on the ob spin off the 3rd cushion. The key is for the cb to hit the ob while it is skidding, just before it turns over.

Skin, I'll fool around with it today, wondering if I can hit it hard enough. thanks for the tip.

Think a super long drag shot, Rod, but where you're making the hit in between the back spin and the change to forward roll on the cb. Getting enough speed is not the problem for me; it's timing the hit to be during the cb skid.

Anyway, I have had that shot for a long time but never tried to break down what was happening until this morning. I just always "instincted" it. Got to thank you for motivating me to do that. Hope it works for you.

That's a tough break, eric. I probably am not going to shoot to make it unless the shot is free or perfectly wired. It is a strong move though, imho.

Skin, after hiting quite a few shots like you suggested today, I have to agree, this is a very good way to hit this shot, although the tables I play on are not quite fast enough for this shot, the line is much better and no excess english on the 3rd. rail. This method would be very effective on faster equiptment.

Great, Rod! Now all you have to do is find a place you can use it. :)

I Bank this twicewith top or draw either way, I don't care for the shot illustrated. Back cutting that ballso that it banks below the side pocket and accurately is tricky...

that keeps to the k.i.s.s. principle which over the year has been a good principle for me
